The Nanny closely copied this sitcom. Here, Tony holds a pan of banana bread in front of a fan, opens the front door and turns the power on, wafting the aroma outdoors, in a bid to attract Jonathan back home. Instead, Mona scoops down from her upstairs apartment, piping in "Do I smell banana bread?!" A recurring joke in The Nanny---yet another idea directly lifted from here---was for Sylvia Fine to become an overbearing glutton, and going after people's food before they were able to take a bite, with her catch phrase then becoming "Do I smell ____?" enter any food in the blank space. This became a theme throughout most of the run of that copycat sitcom.
The premise for this title was previously done by Changes (1984), where a girl---a school friend of Ricky's---comes to his house and falls in love with his father. It seems that, in America, TV shows have been copying each other's premises, themes, scenes and/or entire episodes since the beginning. (The Nanny closely reproduced many episodes from this show, sometimes to a T!)
