A wealthy rancher, David King, is like all the other cattlemen in the area. He has invested in cattle and the market is low on selling them. Things look bleak for all the cattlemen and especially King cause he has the largest herd in the area. He needs to borrow more money from the bank but his so-called friend, Charlie Coleman the banker, will not loan him any money. King grabs Coleman by the lapel and shakes him but then apologies. With the safe open, King takes $10,000 he needs and tells Coleman to draw up the papers. But Coleman has some sort of spell and dies on the floor of the bank right after King leaves.

Rather suddenly the price of cattle rebounds making selling the cattle much more profitable. King stands to gain many thousands of dollars. Also about this time, bank examiners have found that money is missing from Coleman's bank. King comes in and basically confesses about taking money before papers were sign and he returns the $10,000. But the bank examiners what to know where the other $40,000 is located. The bank was short $50,000. Now the town, that use to call King a friend, is turning against him and want the landowner in jail.

Even with some holes in the story, it was still interesting enough to keep the viewer watching the entire time. There is more to this story that makes for a better tale that brings the episode to an enjoyable ending. With some nice acting and an enjoyable story, it made for a nice show.

The King of the Valley is Dave King (Walter Pidgeon) and he is looking at potential financial problems. The market for cattle might dive and he has the largest herd.

The bank will not give him a load. His friend at the bank Charlie Coleman refuses him a loan so King helps himself to $10,000. Telling Coleman to draw up the loan papers.

Coleman has some kind of a fit and dies just moments after King left the bank. It seems King did not need the money, the money for the cattle hers rebounds as the US army need the beef.

Only King is looking to get lynched from the townsfolk after there is a shortfall of $50,000 at the bank. He only took $10,000.

Maybe King was stitched up by Charlie's widow who always had a thing for King. It might also be that Coleman was creaming off some of the bank funds.

An uneven story with flaws. The bitterness of some of the townspeople towards King was hard to understand. There might be envious of him as King was wealthier than them, he might even be arrogant.

The unrequited love story was a nice but more could had been done with the a woman scorned angle.

The bank auditors left a lot to be desired.
