A night on the mountain
Tweekums9 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When a school camping trip is proposed Daria and Jane decide to give it a miss; that is until Helen gives Daria a fifty dollar bribe to go so she and Jake can enjoy a weekend alone together to work on their communication and Daria uses the same fifty to bribe Jane to attend. Inevitably the trip is a disaster; Quinn takes far too much stuff which leads to her fans leaving the vital provisions behind to carry her bags, Brittney is stung by bees, Mr. O Neill collapses and Mr. DeMartino falls over a cliff! While they are undergoing various deprivations Helen and Jake are in another cabin a few miles away in an attempt to improve their relationship.

This is another one of those slightly unrealistic episodes which puts the children in an unlikely situationÂ… although not totally unbelievable; a teacher at my old school took a party into the Welsh mountains in weather so bad the Army cancelled their exercises! The trip led to lots of laughs; most episodes that give Mr DeMartino a large role are pretty funny! Quinn and her friends in the fashion club also provided quite a few laughs and I actually felt sorry for her when Sandy temporarily expelled her from the club! Despite the dangerous situation I didn't really feel as if anything really bad would happen as it isn't that kind of show.

A cozy, snowy episode of Daria
safenoe27 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
There's something about snow themed episodes, and Antisocial Climbers is no exception. It conjured up images of Wham's Last Christmas, but a subversive turn could have been a "Shining" turn where Mr DeMartino adopts a Jack Torrance persona big time. Although Kevin was left behind at the end of the episode, but I assume he got rescued in time.

There's a brief reference to Jane's boyfriend, who ends up becoming Daria's boyfriend in the season 4 finale. Who would have thought?

Daria's parents attempt to communicate and be intimate in a log cabin, and then end up playing charades with a frozen Mr DeMartino.

There needs to be a Daria reboot. I would love to know Daria's take on Millenials, Generation X, Generation Y, political correctness, iPhones, iPads, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Trump, The Simpsons.

What sort of school is this?!

Warning: Spoilers
I bought the "Daria" box set a while back and am finally siting down to re-watch the show. One thing I have noticed is that the high school takes TONS of field trips--and all to places no sane school would take them. A mall outing, paint-balling, and a bazillion other weird trips takes place--and here they go on a hiking trip through the woods in snowy weather!!! Talk about contrived!! At first, I could ignore such silly plots, but by "Antisocial Climbers" it was too obvious a shortcoming of the show.

As usual, Ms. Li is more concerned with gaining publicity for herself than showing any concern for her students. So, when an opportunity presents itself to create a new club (and she never bothers to tell any of the students she volunteered them for this), she takes the usual group of students and teachers on a hike. Nothing goes right. Students and teachers get separated from the main group, supplies get left behind and a snow storm is on the way. And, as usual, Daria and Jane add commentary as the idiots do their usual thing. A rather weak episode that seems to have a lot of old themes and little new to offer.
