The seven dwarfs of Auschwitz
rhayes629 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the survivor stories from Auschwitz, this was one of the most compelling stories. The Ovitz family had to stare death in the face and then through their wits and talent were able to walk out of the death camp as a family. So many others went to Auschwitz as complete and extended families and then survived with out their loved ones. I believe that this story should make the jump from a documentary and be made into a movie in order to show the world that the Ovitz family was a happy family despite their dwarfism. They were real people who lived complete full lives. They were passionate about their family and devoted to the Jewish faith. Their talent as performers also kept them alive while on the road throughout Europe while other Jews were being sent to death and labor camps. I read the book In our hearts we were giants by Yehuda Koren and Eilat Negev. From the book I read about the love story of Simon and Frieda. I feel that their story is as compelling, even better than the story of Romeo and Juliet.
