On this week's menu: deadly extra-dimensional radioactive monster
owlaurence15 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
There is nothing basically wrong with this episode, really, it's just... it's a season 1 or 2 plot line (without Daniel nor O'Neill). The universe is about to be overrun by godlike beings while the magic 8 Baals (sorry, couldn't resist) play havoc with the Stargates. Is it really the right moment to plan a vacation at O'Neill's cottage? Besides, the plot line takes forever to really develop, so that for a good 15mn we're left wondering what this is all about. I like the irony that after all its past experiences, Earth *once again* created a real mess by fiddling with alien technology. I won't mention that the "alien from another dimension" has already been done, or that the SFX for that animal at the end really, really suck. (By the way, I wonder what it was before mutation; judging from its movements, I'd say it was a bunny. Just a thought.) Anyway, solving those problems used to be a bit more complex than emptying a whole cartridge of bullets into them.

So as I said, this a decent episode, just a very average one, which won't leave a gap if you miss it. The best part of it (besides all the jokes about Mitchell hating his quality time with Landry and the echoes it brings of O'Neill's trips there) is seeing Carter bluffing Teal'c. Go girl!

Dreadful (by the usual SG-1 standards)

I've been really enjoying SG-1 from the very beginning, so I really don't want to write a bad review. But, this episode is just daft. It starts off well, you immediately think: Predator! However, there are several bits in the second half that destroy those thoughts of Arnold Schwarzenegger fighting a smart and deadly alien.

Firstly, at one point Mitchell captures a man who has been using a cloaking device. This has nothing to do with the rest of the story, and it seems completely out of place. Then, the conclusion to the episode feels very rushed, and it doesn't really make any sense, for lots of reasons. Also, where is doctor Lam? We haven't seen her for quite a few episodes, and now the SGC appears to have a new doctor without any warning or introduction. That is annoying.

Vala is the only positive in this episode, she is like a breath of fresh air. I hope the show can develop a good relationship between her and Sam. They are vey much like chalk and cheese in this episode. Hopefully, the writers will soften things a little and get everyone to work together more smoothly.

Relaxation

Gen. Landry invites the SG-1 to spend the weekend with him at Gen. O'Neil's cabin but only Mitchell arrives and they feel uncomfortable with each other due to the chain of command. Daniel, Sam, Vala and Teal'c have other assignments and do not appear. When a monster attacks the locals, Landry and Mitchell join the hunting party to find the killer. Meanwhile, Sam suspects that the monster originated from Sodan cloaking device that was stolen.

"Uninvited" is one of the worsts episodes of "Stargate SG-1". The forced relationship of Landry and Mitchell is annoying and the monster is irritating. My vote is six.

Warning: Spoilers
All the anti hunting & anti firearm comments ruin this pretty good unique episode. At one point a comment is made about too many drunken yahoo hunters shooting up the woods like the ok correl, then our Heroes proceed to Shoot up the woods with automatic gun fire. Why would anyone who is anti hunting take a trip to a cabin in the woods during hunting season?

Groovy mutation

This episode has one of those "impeccable timing"themes, if the cause of the problem has likely been happening for a while, how did it all just happen to come together at the same time?!

Listen to Vala

Warning: Spoilers
By now the other members of SG-1 should know that Vala is competent. For some reason, they won't listen to her about the mutated creatures. She's right every time.

The Ori are mentioned, but have nothing to do with the episode. In fact, because the Ori threat is imminent, planets are falling, nobody knows when the Ori will attack Earth, Landry orders a weekend getaway for SG-1.

Daniel is in England. Teal'c and Carter are dealing with a killer creature. And someone or something is stalking Landry and Mitchell.

It turns out everything is related. There are some killer monsters on Earth. The people at the SGC created the creatures by altering the Sodan cloaking devices. The Ori are still an imminent threat, but not this week. There are ducks to find and there's poker to play.

How Vala learned how to play poker is a mystery. Earth poker is probably similar to intergalactic poker.
