An episode for the true Bundyphile...
dsgraham21200224 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I vehemently-disagree with one reviewer that called this one "a standard episode"; in fact, it is quite atypical. For once, Al gets back at Peggy for 'unwanted sex', where the roles are reversed quite nicely. Also, calling "Married With Children" crude (that same reviewer) is like calling "South Park" offensive...both are purposefully that way, respectively.

I feel that this episode and "A Little Off the Top", are two of Katy Sagal's shining moments in this series. She is a sheer delight to watch in each. I am actually watching this episode for the umpteenth time as I type and reveling in its awesome Bundy-ness. Ah, another episode has come, where Peg "kills the healthiest man in Chicago", Jim Jupiter. Another gem of the series (and dedicated to the cockroach, I might add)...

Al Just Love Labor Day! Peggy hates it!
Sylviastel30 May 2009
When it's Labor Day, it's Al's day at least at home. He decides to hold a family barbecue or picnic in the backyard. He uses a grill that has the old ashes from last year in it. When Peggy knocks it over and empties the ashes out, she gets the kids to invade the neighborhood homes to collect some ashes. While Steve and Marcy are caring for Marcy's belated Aunt Toonie's (odd name) ashes, Steve hated her while Marcy loved her troublesome Aunt who paid for sailors and gave her estate to her cats. In this episode, we watch Peggy working trying to get the benches cleaned for Al who gets aroused by watching her work. It's a funny but crude episode.

Standard Episode.

Warning: Spoilers
It's amusing in its own raunchy way. All the episodes are. But in this one the humor seems knee-capped by the writers' being unable to come up with much more than one gag, then having to fill in the rest of the running time with an extremely atypical Al.

It's Labor Day weekend and Al is going to make his famous burgers on the back yard grill. He invites neighbors Marcy and Steve and asks them to bring all the ingredients.

Al's perfect burgers depend on his never changing the ashes from year to year, but Peggy accidentally dumps them and sends the kids out to steal ashes from the grill of any of their neighbors. The kids don't know what the ashes are for, so they steal the urn containing the cremated remains of Marcy's Aunt Toonie.

All agree that the burgers are unusually good. The payoff is when Kelly realizes that the ashes are Aunt Toonie's and the word is passed in whispers from ear to ear, with everyone doing spit takes. It's amusing but it was a long time coming.

The B story has Al being turned on while watching Peggy bent over the picnic table and then repeatedly dragging her away for satisfaction, finally leaving her exhausted and in tears -- if you can believe that.

Now that's a tasty burger.

It's Labor Day weekend, which means that it is time for the annual Bundy barbecue in the backyard, to which Steve and Marcy are invited. Unfortunately, Peggy accidentally knocks over Al's grill, spilling the ashes that are vital to making his burgers the best. Peggy sends the kids to find replacement ashes before Al finds out what has happened.

Most of this episode sees Al finding Peggy more arousing than normal and having sex with her several times, which becomes rather repetitive and not particularly amusing (and, given how much Al dislikes having sex with Peggy, most uncharacteristic). However, it's worth hanging in there for the payoff, in which Kelly realises that the ashes she found are those of Marcy's dead aunt: it's not exactly unexpected, but still very funny when Kelly proceeds to tell Bud and Peggy, who are horrified by the discovery and spit out their food. On the other hand, Steve, who never liked Marcy's aunt, happily polishes off his burger.
