Sex & Nudity

  • An 11/12 year old boy makes a bet with a girl that if he beats her in a race she has to kiss him. This is referred to once more after he saves her book from being washed away in a river, "does this mean I get a kiss?".
  • A boy asks a woman if he can take her daughter to school, to which she replies: "and what makes you think you are good enough for my daughter?" He replies "I'm almost twelve".

Violence & Gore

  • A boy is seen dead with blood running out of his nose.
  • A girl punches a boy and hits him on the ground. He is seen with a blood nose. She is spanked on her behind.
  • A man and woman are beaten to the ground and kicked.
  • A man vomits into his food.
  • 2 boys fight. One is thrown to the ground with a bloodied lip.
  • Whilst playing ball in the street, a girl slide-kicks a boy, & he is tumbled; she gets a bloody knee.
  • A man is bundled into a car and another pushed to the ground.
  • A truck is hit by a bomb which overturns it.
  • A girl is pushed to the ground a couple of times.
  • Dead bodies are seen laid out (fully dressed) on rubble in the street.
  • A boy starts to speak but dies, no blood is shown.

Profanity

  • German Insults Saumensch and Saukerl are used throughout the film. It seems to be debated, but some people say that Saumensch (Not Das Saumensch, but Saumensch on it's own) is, in the Swabian dialect, a very derogatory swear word the equivalent to b*tch or female pig*. Saukerl is specifically for males, but is less sexual and more like "brute". *(If someone knows more about this, please lend a hand!)
  • Profanity such as oh god
  • One use of hell.
  • One use of a**. Two characters are shouting insults about Adolf Hitler and one of them says "Hitler has a monkey's a**." It is barely audible but does appear in the script.
  • When Hans is talking about standing up for his Jewish neighbour, he says "Christ on the cross, what have I done?" In the context, this could be seen as an invocation rather than profanity.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man is seen drinking from a bottle.
  • A person pays someone else with a bottle of champagne.
