For many actresses, particularly ones over the dismaying low age studios films have as an unofficial cut-off, TV's become the main sanctuary for richer female characters -- which may be why Geena Davis is headed back to TV after a stint as the heroine of ABC's White House drama "Commander in Chief" in 2005-2006. (More recently, she played a role in A&E's miniseries "Coma.") The Oscar-winning Davis will play the lead role in an untitled bounty hunter drama for which TNT just ordered a pilot. She'll play an unconventional bondswoman whose eccentric approach to the job gives her an advantage in a tough business... eh, whatever, the drama's based on the real-life story of San Francisco bailbond agent Mackenzie Green, who was profiled in the New Yorker in 2003. Scott Prendergast ("Kabluey") and Amy Berg wrote the script, while Dean Devlin, whose TNT con artists series "Leverage" was canceled in December,...

Former Office producer/director Ken Kwapis has sold two family-themed half-hour comedy projects to NBC, TVLine has confirmed.
The first, tentatively titled Fred and Marilyn, is inspired by the real-life relationship between writer Scott Prendergast (Kabluey) and his formidable mother.
The second is based on the best-selling Joey Pigza book series by Jack Gantos and is being billed as a high-definition family comedy. Claudia Silver (Jungle Junction) will pen the script.
Kwapis and Alexandra Beattie will shepherd the projects — both of which are only in the pilot script stage — through their In Cahoots production company.

In a previous news story, we reported that Amber Benson's film Drones was eerily similar to the new series Human Relations on SyFy Channel's Fall lineup.
On July 31st on her blog, Amber Benson insinuated that the unlikely similarities between her indie film Drones and the new SyFy Channel series Human Relations was way toooo coinicdnetal, especially since SyFy.com itself had aired the trailer to Drones back in January 2010.
"Human Relations is an original concept that was brought to us by Scott Prendergast, a respected independent filmmaker," Syfy said in a statement issued to the media only in the past few days. "It was in no way inspired by Drones. We pride ourselves in our professional integrity and take suggestions of plagiarism very seriously."
"Our initial concern was if there was any truth to this," SyFy's Mark Stern said to www.airlockalpha.com. "If that were the case,...

The Lovely Laura Linney has been absent from (big) screens this year. I kinda miss her, though having her at the Oscars last February was more than I could have asked for in a way so it's all good. Maybe The Other Man will get a real release next year? This getup makes Katharine Heigl look more matronly than her 30 year old self should look I think. She's not one to hold her tongue so do you suppose she has a few words for the Alliance of Women Film Journalists who recently gave her 27 Dresses their "Hall of Shame Award" for 2008? Speaking of weddings... is Goldie Hawn finally getting hitched after 25 years of...? No, it's just a white dress. All the same Jennifer Aniston is purposely not looking at her whilst putting on her "I'm so happy! I'm really so happy!

The International Press Academy announced their nominees for the 13th Annual Satellite Awards and it is a mixed bag of snubs across the board and further proof the idea of separating Drama, Comedy and Musicals is just about the dumbest idea around as they are Really reaching by including Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist as a comedy or a musical. I would even say Happy-Go-Lucky and Vicky Cristina Barcelona don't fit the category. What was so funny about Poppy being attacked by her driving instructor? Where was the comedy in VCB? Gimme a break. it's going to be even worse when the Globes nominate something like High School Musical 3 and Mamma Mia! instantly giving them some kind of credibility. However, category distinction aside the absence of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from all categories makes me wonder if any of these people even saw all the films. Take for...

Sisyphus had it easy compared to Scott Prendergast, the hapless sad-sack protagonist of Kabluey. What's a little boulder-rolling compared to the unenviable task of passing out fliers for a failing dot-com while standing in a lonesome field, wearing a blue costume that makes him look like a Peanuts character re-imagined as a creepy, featureless blue blob? Rarely has an independent film benefited so greatly from a single piece of costume design. In his blue-man getup, Prendergast is simultaneously a droll, understated walking sight gag and a strangely lyrical component of a hauntingly spare landscape. Making the leap to feature films after several shorts, writer-director Prendergast plays his character as a directionless man-child who moves in with his sullen sister-in-law (Lisa Kudrow) to help look after her two monstrous children until his brother returns from an extended tour in Iraq. To help with the bills, Prendergast gets the aforementioned job...
