This movie is not glitzy, it's more story....and well done at that. Young man struggles with intensive Hassidic Jewish upbringing that is unfamiliar to most people in America... and even unfamiliar to most American Jews.
Our protagonist rebels against the intensity of religion.... and perhaps also against the sexual "secrets" of this community (which may or may not be true,).
He tries to find himself. Through education. Through smoking pot. Through trying to get laid. But he falters. And he questions what is right. He does stick to an inner guidance of his spirituality, but constantly weighs and counter-weighs his options...a real-life struggle for many. No smug solutions, no pat endings....but an engaging "watch" that makes you think. Nice.
