Mr. Fisher has taken to his bed with a slight chill, so Billy takes advantage by longing around the house in his dressing gown and blowing smoke rings. Overhearing a bedroom conversation between his patents, Billy jumps to the wrong conclusion and thinks his father is going to die. From now on, he will be the dutiful son Mr. Fisher always wanted...
This is straight out of the Big Book Of Television Sitcom Cliches. A character is believed to be terminally ill, his family gather round him, and - wouldn't you know it - he turns out to be healthy. The writers had clearly run out of ideas for the show ( they'd used up all the best ones in Season One ) and were just dashing off the scripts as required. Robert Dorning's 'Dr. Dobson' is a clueless medic in the mold of Reggie Perrin's 'Doc Morrissey'. No Barbara here, although she would be seen in Billy's daydreams.
Funniest moment - thinking Mr. Fisher has passed away, Shadrack tries to measure him for a coffin, only for him to suddenly wake up!
