It Is Billy's 27th birthday, and he is looking forward to getting lots of presents. But he gets only hankies ( except from Grandma, who gives him a box of tissues ) and Barbara ( who gives him a case to put his hankies in ). The disappointment is crushing. Then, on a visit to a sweet shop, Billy meets the lovely 'Sheila' ) the late Elisabeth Lax ) and a date is fixed up. With everyone ) except Grandma ) out of the house, it looks as if Billy will have his birthday treat after all...
This is essentially a retread of the previous year's 'Billy And The Night In', only with Sheila instead of Barbara. There is a fantasy sequence with Billy in bed with two girls and one with Sheila in her underwear, which makes one wonder if this episode was originally intended to be included in Season One. Still, its one of the better Season 2 episodes.
Elisabeth Lax played 'Wendy', Bob Ferris' secretary, in 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads'. She died in 1994, aged only 46.
Funniest moment - Billy is about to have his wicked way with Sheila when the family, including Shadrack and Barbara, burst in and yell "Happy Birthday!". Poor Billy!
Second funniest moment - Shadrack as the Fairy Godmother!
