Re-discovered Religious Artifact
AaronCapenBanner24 September 2014
First of the biblical episodes is a most serious-minded account of how a Bedouin shepherd boy in the 1940's discovered buried in the desert a most ancient-looking set of parchments that turned out to be the fabled Dead Sea Scrolls, which ignited a firestorm of interest and speculation among the faithful and organized religion. Episode creates an effective atmosphere of the arid and faraway desert peoples and culture that are present, who play such a key role in how the story unfolded. Viewer interest of course will depend partly on one's own faith and belief in such matters, but the cultural and historic significance of this find is of course important.

Fascinating

Warning: Spoilers
Fascinating Captain! As Spock would say. The Dead Sea Scrolls is a fascinating episode. The Jewish people history. The fight with Rome and the need to hide their records keeps the viewer attention. The linear progression of the episode unfolds nicely to 1945. A shepherd boy finds the famous hidden Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave. When discovered we learn of the Bedwin tribe's dealings, search for more scrolls, and sale of the Scrolls. What was learned from the Scrolls. Why the Scrolls are authentic. How the Scrolls confirm the past. Fascinating for anyone interested in history and the Jewish faith. Excellent narration, re-enactments, and locations. 7 out of 10

In Search Of... "The Dead Sea Scrolls" (1978)

This here is a rather interesting episode that takes a look at some scrolls that were found and unlocked a big mystery to the past. It is believed that a Jewish community saw that their lives were in danger so they relocated to a new location where they started a new colony. Not much was known until thousands of years later when these scrolls were found. This was a pretty entertaining episode and especially how mysterious these settlers were for so long. Learing how the scrolls were found and seeing the race for treasures that it caused was also quite interesting.

Episode: B+
