Entertaining structure, witty dialog. and a ton of intrigue.

Warning: Spoilers
If you listen closely enough during the dining sequence in Bangor Maine, you'll hear what sounds like a warped recording of "When I Fall in Love" in the background. Carolyn is at another table observing Burke with a mysterious man, unaware that they are discussing ways to destroy her family. Meanwhile, Elizabeth meets with Sam Evans, only a slight recollection of the past, furious that he seems intent on selling her information on the family's past. They are interrupted by Joe, searching for Carolyn.

I certainly could see Elizabeth Collins Stoddard being a bit more ruthless after the way she controls the conversation with Sam. Burke pretends to be flattered by Carolyn's following him, and manages to cover his real actions. We learn that Carolyn's middle name is Stoddard, and that Sam once did preliminary sketches for Elizabeth's missing husband, Paul. The restaurant set is far more glamorous than any other set shown to date, and it's obvious that with the mixture of gothic drama, business intrigue and regular soap opera staples that the show's audience would become extremely eclectic.

"The Pen Is Yours"

At Collinwood, Liz (Joan Bennett) and a visiting Sam (David Ford) try to determine what each other know about what happened in 1956 between Roger and Burke. In Bangor, Burke (Mitchell Ryan) meets with John Baragrey (as James Blair), a banker associate of Stuart Bronson who is helping manage Burke's planned takeover of "Collin Enterprises." He's no relation to Nicholas Blair.

Interested in a lunch date, Carolyn (Nancy Barrett) has followed Burke to Bangor. Back at Collinwood, Joe (Joel Crothers) lets Liz know Carolyn may have followed Burke to Bangor. Liz worries about the whereabouts of Carolyn and Malloy...

In a foreboding bit of story development and hopelessly contrived scene, Burke gives Carolyn an expensive "sterling sliver" fountain pen during their lunch at the Bangor Pine Hotel restaurant. This fountain pen is held up for the camera, and you should treat it with importance as this prop will become even more important that the "bleeder valve" removed from Roger's brake system...

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 42 is another dull one centred around endless mundane chit-chat and the character of Burke Devlin. He continues to make secret moves towards destroying Roger Collins, this time with a line to taking over the Collins business empire. Meanwhile, Burke and Carolyn meet up and a gift is exchanged; another mundane act, at least for now.
