Initially, the game was produced for the Commodore Amiga, but was then later ported to the PC and the SNES. As happened with other SNES ports, Lemmings had to be altered a bit. Responsible for this was the Japanese publisher "Sunsoft" and the Nintendo policy of banning religion and alcohol in their games.
