Amblin TV and ABC Studios are taking another stab at adapting the acclaimed Spanish hospital series Polseres Vermelles (Red Band Society), this time for Fox. The network has put in development the project, which will be written by Side Order Of Life creator Margaret Nagle. Red Band Society is a coming-of-age drama with humor set at a big-city hospital. Unlike most hospital series, it doesn’t center on the doctors but on the patients. It explores with dark humor the daily life of a group of teenage kids living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. The depth of these unexpected friendships allow them to survive the challenges of growing up under such intense circumstances. Red Band Society is based on the Filmax-produced 2011 series Polseres Vermelles for Catalonia’s TV3 network, which was created by Albert Espinosa. ABC's Boston Legal, HBO's "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq" and Discovery Channel's Planet Earth are among the recipients of the inaugural Television Academy Honors, which recognize "television with a conscience."
Rounding out the list of nine honorees are Lifetime's movie Girl, Positive and its recently canceled series Side Order of Life, the CNN documentary God's Warriers, the Harm episode of NBC's "Law & Order: SVU," CBS' Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Pictures of Hollis Woods and the Showtime documentary Shame.
The Television Academy Honors, an outgrowth of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Television Cares Committee, are set to be presented May 1 at the Beverly Hills Hotel at a ceremony produced by Phil Gurin (NBC's The Singing Bee).
ATAS chairman and CEO John Shaffner said nearly 200 submissions were received following the call for entries in December.
"It was very difficult to narrow them down to a final group of honorees," he said. "However, we felt the shows and movies we selected best represent what this honor stands for -- programming that enlightens, educates, creates awareness and instigates positive change regarding a wide range of social and health issues."
Shaffner noted that the nine honorees also represent a range of genres, subject material and networks.

Veteran Fox executive Craig Erwich has been named executive vp at Warner Horizon Television.
In the newly created position, Erwich will take over all day-to-day operations at Warner Horizon, Warner Bros. TV's division for scripted cable series and reality shows for broadcast and cable, reporting to WBTV president Peter Roth.
He also will ramp up Warner Horizon's broadband and new media efforts to produce Web series through Studio 2.0, Warner Bros. TV Group's digital production and distribution unit, reporting to WGTVG president Bruce Rosenblum.
The move reunites Erwich with Roth. The two worked together at Fox in the 1990s when Roth was president of the network and Erwich was a current executive.
"Craig is an outstanding executive with whom I've worked closely and known for 12 years," Roth said. "The Warner Horizon team has done a remarkable job in the past year, and bringing Craig on board is the next logical step in the expansion of the unit."
At Warner Horizon, Erwich will oversee development and production, shepherding development of new scripted and unscripted series and managing the company's portfolio of existing shows -- cable dramas State of Mind and Side Order of Life for Lifetime and Heartland for TNT as well as reality series Pussycat Dolls Present for the CW, The Bachelor for ABC and High School Reunion for TV Land.

Lifetime Television has greenlighted a second season of its hit drama Army Wives.
The network has ordered 13 episodes of the series, from the Mark Gordon Co. and ABC Studios, for Season 2, which will premiere in the spring.
Wives has become a breakout hit under Lifetime Networks president of entertainment Susanne Daniels, who joined the network in September 2005. It ranks as the highest-rated series in Lifetime's 23-year history, averaging 3.6 million total viewers so far at 10 p.m. Sundays. The show -- which debuted June 3 to 3.5 million viewers, the most ever for a Lifetime series premiere -- also stands as the top new cable drama of the year among the female demos of 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
Wives is just one of three scripted series that Lifetime is debuting this summer as part of an ambitious original programming strategy. The other two -- Side Order of Life and State of Mind-- are receiving a good deal of buzz as they head into their premieres at 8 and 9 p.m. Sunday, respectively, which will give Lifetime a three-hour block of original programming on the night.
"It couldn't have happened better that 'Army Wives' created a platform of viewers and momentum for 'Side Order' and 'State of Mind, '" said Daniels, who is expected to make the announcement about the Wives pickup today(thursday) during the network's portion of the Television Critics Assn.

NEW YORK -- The cable upfront started moving into full swing, with some cable channels striking deals involving the new live-plus-three-day commercial ratings.
Lifetime reported about 50% of its upfront negotiations had been done, with a big deal involving commercial ratings with Group M struck last week.
"We're seeing the marketplace as very strong, and the currency people are talking about is C3," said John Matluck, senior vp advertising sales at Lifetime. Lifetime has seen CPM increases in the high single digits with strong categories including pharmaceuticals, packaged goods, retail and the movie sector.
Lifetime was buoyed by the strong premiere of Army Wives plus the upcoming July 15 premieres of State of Mind and Side Order of Life, two other original series. "It really helped us to have that success before the upfront," said Rick Basso, senior vp pricing and planning at Lifetime.
Meanwhile, TNT and TBS were going to the marketplace with momentum from its original series as well as acquired series. They also said Tuesday that it would offer single sponsorship of its primetime movies 52 weeks a year, giving an advertiser category exclusivity for a premium.
