This episode of The History Channel's "Modern Marvels" is about the Hoover Dam--the largest dam ever built at that time. Now the thought of a dam being built in the desert doesn't sound all that interesting. However, the show excelled because it spent so much time discussing the engineering behind the project--and these serve to enlighten the viewer with just how massive and difficult the project would be. I particularly liked this aspect of the show--how they diverted the dam, how they sped up the curing process of the concrete, how they built the infrastructure needed for the project, as well as the sheer insane size of it all! Combining interviews, vintage film, narration and blueprints of the project, this is one of the best episodes of "Modern Marvels" I have seen. Exceptionally well made and fascinating throughout.
