This installment of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" is about the Gray Whales. It particularly focuses on their yearly run to the Baja Peninsula in Western Mexico to breed and raise their young. Then, apparently, they make 5000 mile journey up to the Arctic...repeating this HUGE journey each year.
The show begins with the Cousteau crew out harpooning a whale. Now this IS technically what they're doing but it's NOT going to harm the whale but to install a tracking device. The crew also films the whales having sex as well as TRYING to get near mothers and their young--though this proves difficult. The show ends with a sad note, as they try their best to save a beached baby Gray.
Overall, this is a great episode because it's hard to imagine better footage of whales--with many great closeups and interesting encounters. One of the better shows of the series.
