Memorable episode takes on the enduring and perplexing sea mystery of the famous lost ship Mary Celeste, which was found floating in the Atlantic ocean in 1872, its crew nowhere to be found, and never seen nor heard from again. Its cargo was intact, and fierce speculation ensued about why captain Briggs would abandon his ship, taking his wife Sarah and infant daughter Sophia with him, along with the whole crew, when the ship was undamaged, and traveled in good weather. Piracy, mutiny, drunkenness, incompetence, and even sea monsters were blamed, but to date no definitive answers have been found, nor is it likely any will. A classic look at this ongoing nautical mystery.

An investigative episode!

Warning: Spoilers
An investigative episode. In Search of "The Ghost Ship/Mary Celeste explores the events of the 1872 voyage of the Mary Celeste. The ship the Mary Celeste was found abandon, and became a mystery. The theory of what happened by investigators who boarded the ship was proved wrong! A reenactment of the final days, of the fatal last voyage intrigues the viewer. Then In Search of comes up the series own theory. A possible theory, I found hard to believe. No one wanted the dead mans ship Mary Celeste. The ship was destroyed. More like a hard news episode. A journalistic episode. 6 out of 10 stars. Not my favourite of the series, but watchable.

In Search Of... "The Ghost Ship" (1980)
The 1872 voyage of the Mary Celeste was turned into the film PHANTOM SHIP with Bela Lugosi and it also serves as the structure for this episode, which is another excellent one. This one here takes a look at the mysterious ship and how it turned out one day with no trace of its crew. From here we see a re-enactment of what many believe might have happened, although no one is certain. The Mary Celeste is one of the greatest mysteries out there and In Search Of... does a very good job at telling its story and even pushing the mysterious events of what happened. If you're a fan of the episode or the subject then you'll certainly enjoy the way it is presented here as it's certainly very entertaining.
