. . . part of CALABOOSE MOOSE is the segment titled MR. KNOW-IT-ALL: HOW TO BE A COW PUNCHER WITHOUT GETTING HIT BACK. Most everyone wants to grow up to be a cowboy--even girls with big thumbs. Bullwinkle J. Moose reveals that the main requirement for such a profession is a long gun--preferably a military-style assault rifle. With such a shooting iron, cowboys wield enough firepower to stop a 5,000-head stampeding herd of prospective T-bones running dead in its tracks. Such s Peacemaker also comes in handy when it comes to negotiating with Management, Mr. Know-It-All opines. When it comes down to brass tacks, a good offense is the best defense against urban smokestacks.

Bullwinkle Doesn't Know

The episode starts with our Moose being asked by the Economic Council to advise them on who may be counterfeiting box tops. It is suspected that someone on the council is in cahoots with this person (Boris, of course). The episodes play out as Boris pretends to be a detective, Somes, and Natasha, of course, is Dr. Watkins. The boys suspect a government building holds the bogus boxtops but while they are investigating, they get locked in a clock tower, with deadly wheels and gears going crazy. The Fairy Tale is Snow White. The mirror is there. The evil queen is there. The dwarfs are there (one is noticeably missing). The little guys are wheeler dealers, conning the Queen into handing over her worldly goods for various nefarious enterprises, including body building, dance lessons, and charm training. At the end we find out why the one dwarf never appears. Mr. Peabody and his boy make a trip to Civil War America and meet with William Tecumseh Sherman, whose "March to the Sea" is really to fish for albacore.

Some of the best parts of these Rocky & Bullwinkle sagas . . .

. . . are their titles, of course. What's not to like about CALABOOSE MOOSE or THE CRIME OF YOUR LIFE/WHEN A FELON NEEDS A FRIEND or PANTOMIME QUISLING? As documented by Mr. Flynn in EDGE OF DARKNESS, self-proclaimed Emperor Vicious Quisling forced Norway's clerical class to mow down German invaders from church steeples during World War Two. Notorious traitor Quisling was perforated by firing squad on Oct. 24, 1945, but most of his many fans were merely strung up in an environmentally friendly move to save lead and other natural resources. "Pantomime" reflects Rocky's belief that Marcel Marceau was in cahoots with Quisling.
