Quotes

  • Jack Bauer : [crying]  Tell the president I'm sorry, I can't do this anymore.

  • Wayne Palmer : [Over the phone]  I wanted you to know we're in the process of verifying what Assad told you about his peace initiative

Jack Bauer : Good, so far everything his told us has been true: his given us no reason to doubt him

Wayne Palmer : I hope your right, I'm also calling because I want you to take charge in the search for Fayed and Numair

    Jack Bauer : Mr. President...

Wayne Palmer : [Interrupts him]  after the way the country treated you this morning... well after the way "I" treated you, I know I don't have any right to ask you anything but you've been on top of this situation from the start and I just want to make it official

Jack Bauer : The truth is, I don't think I'm up to it

Wayne Palmer : We are "behind the curve" as it is but if it weren't for you efforts today, we'd be nowhere. I need you to lead this search

Jack Bauer : Then I'll do my best Sir

Wayne Palmer : [Before hanging up]  report to Bill Buchanan and contact me whenever you feel it's necessary

  • Wayne Palmer : [Over the speakerphone]  Jack?

Jack Bauer : [while in a car with Assad and Curtis]  yes Mr. President?

Wayne Palmer : Do we have any leads on that nuclear weapon yet?

Jack Bauer : We have one: we're following up on it now. It's early to tell if it's going to be "meaningful"

Wayne Palmer : Ok Jack listen, I just had a meeting that confirms Assad is serious about pursuing this negotiated "peace" and he does in fact has the influence within his own people to make that happen so I would like to come in with him on some kind of an "arrangement", is he with you now?

    Jack Bauer : Yes Sir

Wayne Palmer : Let me speak with him please

Jack Bauer : [Before handing the phone to Assad]  one moment

Wayne Palmer : Mr. Assad, I am prepared to offer you full protection and a pardon for all crimes or acts of war in the past: there are "conditions" however. That you continue tracking Fayed and that you pledge your commitment to establishing a broader peace, is that acceptable to you?

Hamri Al-Assad : In principle, yes. Forgive me Mr. President, but I need to see this in writing

Wayne Palmer : You'll have it within the hour. Let me speak with Jack please?

Hamri Al-Assad : [Before giving Jack back his phone]  of course

    Jack Bauer : Yes Sir

Wayne Palmer : This was not easy for me to do but I believe the "greater good" requires it. Do you agree?

Jack Bauer : I'm glad it's not a call I have to make Sir

Wayne Palmer : [Before hanging up]  thank you Jack

  • Jack Bauer : [Over the phone]  I need you to do something for me, I want you to run a cross check on Curtis Manning and Assad

Chloe O'Brian : Is this important? I've got a lot on my plate right now

Jack Bauer : Curtis has a problem with Assad: it's personal, I don't know what it is but I need to get them to work together

Chloe O'Brian : [Before hanging up]  I'll get it as soon as I can

  • Bill Buchanan : [Over the phone]  the police just vetted a call from a woman who her son is being held by terrorists

Jack Bauer : Is she creditable?

Bill Buchanan : I'm not sure yet: she says she was held for a couple hours but she got out somehow

Jack Bauer : Is she on the line?

Bill Buchanan : Yes, her name is Jillian Wallace

Jack Bauer : Patch her through

Bill Buchanan : Ms. Wallace, this is Bill Buchanan, I'm transferring you to one of our men in the field

Jack Bauer : Ms. Wallace, my name is Jack Bauer, you said your son is being held by terrorists?

Jillian Wallace : Yes and his forcing my husband to deliver a package

Jack Bauer : What kind of a package?

Jillian Wallace : I don't know: there are other people involved

Jack Bauer : What's the name of the man holding your son?

    Jillian Wallace : Ahmed Amar

Jack Bauer : Did he mention any other names?

Jillian Wallace : Yes. One, Fayed

Jack Bauer : How do we reach your husband?

Jillian Wallace : You can't. He isn't carrying his cell phone

Jack Bauer : Do you know where he was taking the package?

Jillian Wallace : No, I'm sorry. Whatever you do, just don't let him hurt my son

Jack Bauer : Ms. Wallace, we're going to do everything we can. Just stay away from the house and we'll get back to you

  • Curtis Manning : [after seeing Jack hand Assad a file folder]  what's the document?

Jack Bauer : [Talking privately]  I wanted to talk to you about it before it was executed, I didn't think it would happen this fast: we made a deal with Assad

    Curtis Manning : Who's "we"?

Jack Bauer : The United States government. Personally authorized by the President, Assad will receive a pardon, in exchange for his full cooperation which he has given us

Curtis Manning : In other words, "he walks"

Jack Bauer : Like I told the President, it's not my call. It's not your call either. The responsibility lies with him alone: it's out of our hands

Curtis Manning : [Nods]  alright, if that's the way it has to be
