Good look but not as funny or imaginative as it needed to be
Tuning into some foreign channels you never know what you'll find. On one such show the presenter introduces a live magic trick where a man is going to be cut in half by a woman. Not only that though, he will be cut with a chainsaw. Not only that though, she will be wearing a blindfold while performing the trick. However it is not quite as professional as it seems.
Screened separately and together on television and widely available on the internet, this short film was one of several that were commissioned by Robbie Williams to help promote his new album Rudebox. None of the shorts were videos but they were all standalone short films "inspired" by a song off the album but always intended to exist in their own right. With this film there isn't really a connection to the song that was immediately obvious apart from the fact that this was a television show. The show comes an unnamed former Soviet state (I assume) and features a magic trick. It is no more than amusing though and the two main jokes aren't actually that funny.
As director Ib has done well to make it feel and look authentic like it really is a local broadcast from a Eastern European type state but his material isn't there for there to be much more beyond that. Worth a glance then for this but not funny or clever enough to be worth hunting out.
