One of Us Is Lying is going where no Bayview High student has gone before in Season 2: away from its source material.
In its freshman season, the Peacock teen mystery drama followed the central plot of the Karen M. McManus book on which it’s based: five students enter detention, but only four make it out alive. The series took some creative liberties, developing new relationships that didn’t exist in the novel and sprinkling fresh twists into the mystery of who killed the school’s resident gossip blogger Simon, and why he set up the show’s core four.

Telma Hopkins, Linda Park and Vanessa Marano are set as series regulars opposite Shanola Hampton and Dascha Polanco in NBC pilot Dangerous Moms, from Warner Bros. Television and Universal TV.
Written by Janine Sherman Barrois based on the Spanish series Señoras del (h)Ampa, Dangerous Moms is an off-center dark dramedy about four diverse mothers who accidentally kill the queen bee of their school’s PTA during the demonstration of a new high-end food processor. The story becomes a female anthem about friendship and family as it tells the story of one completely unprepared group of women who must juggle their everyday lives while their worlds are turned upside down.
Hopkins will play Fatima. The highly spiritual Fatima lives in and works as a manager at one of Pia’s (Polanco) buildings, where she takes care of her own grandson. She is also a full-time embalmer at a popular funeral home.

Fox is heading to Fantasy Island for the summer. The network has given a straight-to-series order to a contemporary version of the classic drama series. The project, from writer-producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain (The 100), Sony Pictures TV and Gemstone Studios, will air next summer.
This marks the first green light for Gemstone Studios, Sony TV’s boutique label dedicated to premium independent production in a creative and efficient way. Gemstone and Sony TV will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.
Keeping the semi-anthological format of the original with a handful of main characters living on the island and new guests arriving in every episode, the new Fantasy Island, written and executive produced by Craft and Fain, delves into the “what if” questions that keep us awake at night. Each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who walk in with a desire, but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.

Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner should be glad they can work together on the Oscars and "Tower Heist," because it sounds like they won't be making another "Beverly Hills Cop" film any time soon.. Though the two have long talked about making "Beverly Hills Cop 4" together, the comedian and upcoming Oscar host shared in a recent interview that the fourth installment of the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise is no longer happening.
"They're not doing it," Murphy told Rolling Stone. "None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."
That doesn't mean that he's given up on the idea entirely, though. A movie might be dead in the water, but Murphy is hoping he can bring Axel Foley's story to the small screen.

Exclusive: Director-producer Brett Ratner has closed a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television where he has been based for the past 7 years. He is being joined by former NBC development executive-turned-producer Chris Conti, who will serve as president of Ratner's Rat TV. "It's impossible not to love Brett," 20th TV chairman Dana Walden said. "He is a great entertainer, has such love for the business and has the most commercial sense of any creative person I've ever worked with." She praised Ratner for directing the pilot for the Fox drama Prison Break, which "helped reestablish what the 20th Century Fox TV brand is around the world." But for the past 7 years, Ratner has directed only one other 20th TV pilot that has gone to series, CBS' short-lived CIA dramedy Chaos. He has developed and produced a total of 3 series, Prison Break, Chaos and ABC's Women's Murder Club. That...

Yes, Kalinda and Peter slept together at some point in the past, a fact recently revealed on The Good Wife.
But that wasn't the only bombshell to come out of "Ham Sandwich." We also learned that Will has a shady past, one Blake helped cover up. And while series creator Robert King says there are no plans to bring Scott Porter back - he's been cast on The CW's Hart of Dixie - this storyline is just getting started.
“We are going to build on that,” King tells TV Line. “It doesn’t need Blake to go forward.”
Meanwhile, look for Kalinda's love life to continue to get complicated.
Aubrey Dollar will guest star on the drama as a nurse who wants to cozy up to the mysterious investigator. She'll appear on an upcoming episode as someone from whom Kalinda wants information.
Dollar is best known for portraying Cindy on Women's Murder Club.

Exclusive: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have stepped down as executive producers on the CW drama pilot The Secret Circle, based on a three-book series from The Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith. Under their Warner Bros TV overall deal, the Angel and Dollhouse alums last summer were assigned to supervise writer Andrew Miller in developing the project and serve as showrunners on the potential pilot/series. The project was set up at the CW in October. Then, in January, Kevin Williamson was brought in to rewrite Miller's script. Williamson's draft was picked up to pilot, with him serving as executive producer/showrunner. Craft and Fain have a longstanding relationship with Williamson: they worked on his WB series Glory Days and currently serve as consulting producers on his CW series with Julie Plec The Vampire Diaries. But despite the three having a great shorthand, the feel was that there was duplication...

TNT recently premiered a new police drama, Rizolli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon. Will the TV show be a big success or be cancelled like her last detective series, Women's Murder Club?
In Rizzoli & Isles, tough detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) teams up with serious forensic pathologist Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). The rest of the cast includes Bruce McGill, Lee Thompson Young, Lorraine Bracco, and Jordan Bridges.
The show debuted on July 12th, with a lead-in from The Closer. The series premiere attracted a 1.5 in the demo and 7.55 million viewers. Not only is that an excellent sampling but it nearly tied its established lead-in and came in third place among all of the week's cable shows. It set a record as the highest-rated debut for a commercial-supported cable series.

If you've been waiting for Angie Harmon to return to your TV screen since the cancellation of 'Women's Murder Club,' you'll be happy to know that her new series, 'Rizzoli & Isles,' premieres Mon., July 12, 10Pm Et on TNT.
Based on the books by Tess Gerritsen, the story follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), good friends who together bust some of the city's most notorious bad guys. But they're also complete opposites. Maura wears designer duds and is more comfortable among the dead than the living. Jane is tough and gutsy, a better basketball player than her brother, and tends to dodge her overprotective mom, played by the always fabulous Lorraine Bracco (won't it be great to see her back onscreen, too?!).

"Rizzoli & Isles," like its lead-in "The Closer," brings TNT a solid drama featuring spirited female leads who have a knack for taking down the bad guys.
The series, debuting on Monday, July 12 at 10 p.m. Et, stars Angie Harmon as Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as chief medical examiner Maura Isles and is based on stories and characters by novelist Tess Gerritsen.
Although "R&I" exhibits strong plotting -- no doubt from its literary roots -- it's the characterizations and skillful performances that makes the show compelling.
Both leads have experience with crime procedurals, and after the dismal and short-lived "Women's Murder Club," we're happy to see hear Harmon's signature rasp back and sounding outraged. In the premiere, titled "See One, Do One, Teach One," the Rizzoli character is tough, tomboyish and no-nonsense, but when a murderer demonstrates a disturbingly familiar modus operandi, she's afraid that a...

Angie Harmon is upholding law and order, even as she mourns "Law & Order."
The actress returns to series television by playing a Boston police detective opposite Sasha Alexander in "Rizzoli & Isles," a TNT crime drama inspired by Tess Gerritsen novels and premiering Monday, July 12. As she moves on, Harmon also is noting the cancellation of the NBC procedural on which she spent three (1998-2001) of its 20 seasons as Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael.

You don't need to black out to know that new characters will be introduced to Flash Forward soon, since this freshman drama is still climbing up the TV ropes. With that, let's introduce yet another face to the ABC series - actress Paula Newsome.
Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly reports that the star of Women's Murder Club has been tapped for a role in the Joseph Fiennes starrer. Newsome will be appearing in a few episodes "in the not-so distant future," which could mean early next season. It's been stated that her story arc will begin around 2010, which leaves a lot of room for assumption.

Now that it's been picked up for a full season, expect FlashForward to announce a few casting notes for early 2010 and beyond.
First case in point: Paula Newsome will come aboard the show early next year. The actress - who has guest-starred on Bones, NCIS and played a prominent role on the short-lived Women's Murder Club - will play a doctor on the drama.
No word yet on how this character wil tie in to the rest of the story, but Olivia does work at a hospital, so anything is possible.

The star of "Law & Order" and "Women's Murder Club" is adding another crime show to her resume.
Actress Angie Harmon is set to star in the upcoming "Rizzoli," the pilot for a series based on the titular heroine Jane Rizzoli. The character, created by crime author Tess Gerritson, is a Boston detective who has been the focus of seven books.
Harmon portrayed conservative Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael in "Law & Order" from 1998 to 2001, a role for which she received four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Harmon, a former model, has a history of playing characters with a tough reserve, but has also appeared in films such as "Agent Cody Banks" and "Fun with Dick and Jane."
Michael Wright is the executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM. He addressed Harmon's casting in a press release from TNT.

Meet TNT's new leading lady.
"Law & Order" alumna Angie Harmon is returning to the crime-drama beat with a starring role on the cable network's pilot "Rizzoli."
Harmon's casting in the pilot based on Tess Gerritsen's popular Jane Rizzoli mystery novels lifts the contingency on the Warner Horizon-produced project.
In the pilot, written by Janet Tamaro ("Bones"), Harmon will play the title role, Jane Rizzoli, a Boston detective.
The books and the TV adaptation center on Rizzoli, who works on her cases with medical examiner Maura Isles, a role that has not been cast.
Tamaro is executive producing with Bill Haber and "The Closer" executive producer Michael M. Robin. Robin, who helmed the pilot for "Closer," also a female-centered cop drama, has signed on to direct the "Rizzoli" pilot.
In addition to her role as assistant district attorney Abbie Carmichael on "Law & Order," Harmon starred on ABC's "Women's Murder Club" as Detective Lindsay Boxer.

Saturday mornings are one of the few times of the week where, usually, I don't have to be anywhere. I often find myself unwilling to leave my bed and catching up on television. Over the past few years, I've used the time to delve into trashy Friday-night TV. In the past it was NBC's Lipstick Jungle or ABC's Women's Murder Club. (I know, I know—laugh all you want. I don't care!) And now, inexplicably, it's ABC's long-running and now often Barbara Walters-less (boo!) newsmagazine 20/20. Random, right? 20/20, really? But seriously, it's so good this season. Let me explain. I...

Ever since Women's Murder Club ended last year -- after a way too short run, in my opinion -- I've been looking for appearances by Angie Harmon. Her own series would be great, but if not, I'll settle for whatever I can get. She's just signed to guest star in episode four of the upcoming season of Chuck.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Harmon will play a character named Sydney, a spy for the Ring who's looking to kill Ryan McPartlin's Captain Awesome alter ego.
Her character of Lindsay Boxer on Women's Murder Club was a badass detective who could beat the heck out of a perp while ordering pizza on her cell phone. I've been intermittent with my Chuck viewing, but I'll definitely be checking out this episode and hoping to see more of Harmon.
Other recent additions to the NBC show include Smallville's Kristin Kreuk and Superman's Brandon Routh.

Things keep popping for screenwriter Derek Haas.
Jerry Bruckheimer has just bought the rights to a short story Haas wrote called "Shake" and hired the writer and his regular collaborator Michael Brandt to expand it into a feature screenplay. The deal was for more than seven figures.
The origin of Haas' story was a new site called Popcornfiction.com that he recently created for TV and film writers to showcase their pulpy short fiction. I've been a fan of women in space movies ever since I watched Kate Capshaw and Lea Thompson in Space Camp as a kid. Although I've never gotten into the Star Trek or Star Wars franchises too much, because they rarely give women leadership roles — except for Star Trek: Voyager, which I've seen all seven seasons of — and I've only watched some of the Battlestar Galactica episodes, I enjoyed Jodie Foster's Contact (at least the first half), and Lori and I both loved the 2002 Showtime series Odyssey Five.
So I was excited to hear about the new space drama coming to America (and Canada, Germany, and the U.K.).
Last week, ABC purchased 13 episodes of the new Canadian sci-fi drama Defying Gravity, which has this description, "In the near future, eight astronauts from five countries (four women and four men) undertake a mysterious six-year international space mission covering thirteen billion kilometers.

British filmmaker Simon Rumley, the director of 2006’s The Living and the Dead, got in touch with Dread Central last night to provide us with first word (and pics, see ‘em below) on his latest feature Red, White & Blue.
“I'm very excited to announce that I'm currently in production,” says Rumley, who at present is filming in Austin, TX with actors Marc Senter (The Lost, Cabin Fever 2), Noah Taylor (Shine/The Proposition), and Amanda Fuller (Women's Murder Club, Buffy The Vampire Slayer). “Tim League (Fantastic Fest, Alamo Drafthouse) is executive producing, and I'm shooting with The Living and the Dead director of photography Milton Kam on the new and pretty amazing Red Cameras.”
Described as a “fast-moving slacker revenge movie,” Red White & Blue is a ScreenProjex presentation of a Rumleyvision production in association with Fidelity Films and, according to the film’s PR, is aimed at being “an unashamedly tough...

Sony unveiled the PSP Go, a motion controller, and a slew of impressive titles--including a new one from Rockstar, creators of the Grand Theft Auto franchise--during today's E3 video game expo. While Nintendo, maker of the leading Wii console, failed to generate much enthusiasm at its press conference.
Nintendo had a tough act to follow, with lots of big news coming out of Microsoft's Xbox 360 event yesterday. Nintendo showed Wii Motion Plus, an update to the existing controller. Wii Fit Plus, also an update. And Wii Sports Resort, an update to their popular sports title that adds archery and three-point basketball to the mix. In other words, not much new--even if the games will sell a gajillion copies.
Nintendo did reveal that several new DS games will include user-generated content that can be shared wirelessly or downloaded from the DSi store (including Wario Ware Dyi and animation creator FlipNotes Studio...

In addition to cancelling Life earlier today (not that I'm bitter), NBC revealed the six new series it has picked up for the 2009-2010 season.
First, the bad news: I've read through the descriptions and casting sides for all of the shows except Trauma, and despite the fact that they are all ensembles with more characters than you can keep track of, all the leads are straight, as far as I can tell (with the possibility that Guillermo Diaz's character on Mercy). If anyone in the industry knows otherwise, please send me a tip!
The only one of the series created by a woman is Mercy (the one about female nurses, naturally).
So basically, it's business as usual on primetime broadcast TV.
The good news? We'll be getting Maura Tierney (Parenthood), Carly Pope (Day One), and Michelle Trachtenberg (Mercy) on the regular, and some racial diversity among the casts (not a lot,...
