inspirational
Jewelry designer Catherine Angiel is a true example of a success story.
To overcome so many obstacles and pursue her dreams is an inspiration to us all. Both politically and artistically she is a pioneer. Her determination and passion gave her strength to move forward even in the most difficult times.
This is a woman who decided not to make excuses but to make choices in what she believed in. This is a woman that risked her business to make a contribution to society in opening our eyes to acceptance, at a time where being gay or lesbian was shunned.
In 1993, she was approached by Newsweek magazine to be on the cover featuring "lesbians coming out strong". Despite the possible consequences she accepted. This was poignant and necessary and the beginning of recognition of alternative lifestyles.
Women were not jewelry designers, lesbians were not visible, she single handedly changed both perceptions. She is courageous, brave and humble, she turned difficulties into opportunities. Today Catherine Angiel is one of the most celebrated jewelry designers in New York City, not only has she earned the respect of her piers but is also a favorite to Hollywood's most Elite.
What an admirable person.
