I once said to Trixie Mattel, "enjoy the ride" after her appearance on drag race. The look of hurt on her face shocked me and I've regretted saying it ever since. Her reply was ," I created this ride and I'm in control of it."
Last night I rented Trixie Mattel's "moving parts" and I'm so thrilled I did! Get ready to jump into the drivers seat.
What could easily be self indulgent, is a drag-a-liciously painted portrait of an artist who works non stop in order to live up to his self created flawless media persona and who consistently asks the question, "am I enough".
The doc chronicles life on the road of a brassy drag queen , comedian , actor , singer, musician bombshell Barbie or a she calls herself "a thing" who at the end of the day is a sensitive artistic introverted perfectionist.
One of the strongest messages of the film is about the ups and downs of loving someone with mental illness when they can't love themselves and the true meaning of friendship.
Other themes include growing up as an outsider in a straight mans world, the bright yet sometimes Lonely life of a performer and the responsibility of becoming a gay hero.
The film is a touching heartfelt look at a little boy who still plays dress up and used his weirdness to fulfill his dreams .
Loved it.
