One of the officers commenting on the Chinook mentions that the rotors counter-rotate to negate their own torque. In fact, the reason for their counter-rotation is to eliminate the possibility of the blades striking where they overlap. The rotors are also synchronized to increase the distance between the blades on each rotor.
