Amar Singh Chamkila Is Streaming On Netflix (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila is getting rave reviews and is a brilliantly made biopic on the life of the late singer from Punjab. Diljit Dosanjh plays the late singer in the film and has done a remarkable job putting life to Chamkila. The film traces the journey of the superstar singer and his struggle throughout.
All the intrinsic details have also been worked upon. How Chamkila got his name by fluke, his first performance, first record, first photoshoot, everything has been covered in the biopic.
Amar Singh Chamkila even shows the events of his last day in detail, including his last meal at a home that served him cold food, and he joked about the same. However, his associate Lal Chand, in one of his interviews with Noble TV Canada in 2020, revealed more details about Chamkila’s last day,...

It’s been 8 years since fans have been asking for a new installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, and their requests were eventually met, with the fourth film now being weeks away from its debut. And following the standard maintained by the past three entries, fans are reasonably hyped to see what the studio has in store for them, which, not long ago, delivered Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
However, the early reviews for the Jack Black-led movie have had fans worried, as it appears, Kung Fu Panda 4 might not surpass the bar set by its predecessors.

After DreamWorks hit the ball out of the park with Kung Fu Panda, they went even harder with the sequel, especially with Gary Oldman’s Lord Shen, arguably the best villain in the entire franchise.

It’s no secret that James Cameron waited years for the technology to catch up before he could hop on to filming Avatar: The Way of Water, which pioneered new underwater film technology. And it seems, similar was the case for DreamWorks’ upcoming film, Kung Fu Panda 4, which will be the first mainline entry in one of the studios’ most beloved franchises in 8 years.
Even though the third film in the franchise was a box-office hit, DreamWorks didn’t resort to working on the fourth one right away, and director Mike Mitchell has revealed the reason why.

Exclusive: Canada’s Waterside Studios is developing scripted projects with an array of North American writing and production talent.
The Corus Entertainment-owned studio is currently focusing on procedurals, half-hour comedies and young adult content after launching last year. On the back of its debut teen series Geek Girl going into production for Netflix and Corus, Head of Waterside Jeff Norton revealed a trio of titles developed with the likes of writer-producers Todd Berger and Julie Dicresce, Arnie Zipursky and Jeff Detsky.
On the procedural front is Serve & Protect, a drama series co-produced with Berger and Dicresce’s December Films, which is best known for Syfy horror comedy Reginald the Vampire. Canadian novelist and screenwriter Zoe Whittall is attached to the project, which Norton billed as having “the ensemble cast of NCIS with the quick wit of Private Eyes.”

Well everyone, the winners for the 21st Annual Golden Schmoes for the year 2022 are in! As expected, Everything Everywhere All At Once absolutely cleaned up. Just like Spider-Man: No Way Home last year, It took home seven of the big awards, including “Favorite Movie”, “Best Actress”, “Best Director” and more. Top Gun: Maverick was the other big winner, with 4 wins, albeit Big ones, with Tom Cruise’s Maverick taking home “Coolest Character”, while the movie also took home “Best Action Scene”, “Most Memorable Scene” and “Biggest Surprise”. Why would it be considered the “Biggest Surprise” you may ask? Well, I think we all expected Top Gun: Maverick to be good, but did we think it would be an instant classic? I agree with the voters on this one. That said, nothing broke any records for most Golden Schmoes wins of all time, with The Dark Knight still holding that record with a dozen wins.

When “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” opened in theaters last December, the spinoff sequel in the “Shrek” universe began its box office run with an unremarkable $12 million. But the animated adventure, about a swashbuckling cat voiced by Antonio Banderas, has enjoyed nine lives on the big screen.
After nearly two months, ticket sales have climbed to $177 million in North America and $454 million globally — and counting. That’s an impressive haul, particularly given the commercial struggles of other recent animated fare such as “Lightyear” and “Strange World.”
“It is certainly rare to see a film leg out to a 15 lifetime multiple from its three-day debut,” says Universal’s president of domestic distribution Jim Orr. “The film is exciting, heartwarming and immensely satisfying for a broad audience.”
Much of “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’s” slow-and-steady box office success is attributed to positive reviews, enthusiastic word-of-mouth and minimal competition from family films.

"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is one of the most inexplicable movies in recent memory. It's a sequel to a much-maligned movie that came out over a decade ago. It's subtitled "The Last Wish" and billed as the end of an era despite only being the second movie to star Antonio Banderas' swashbuckling kitty. Its star-studded cast includes the likes of not only Banderas, but also Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney, Harvey Guillén, and Salma Hayek Pinault.
The movie has also gained a tremendous amount of acclaim since its release in theaters in December, picking up an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and earning glowing reviews, including one for IGN in which /Film writer Rafael Motamayor compared it favorably to The X-Men franchise high point "Logan," a comparison that caught on in a big way throughout the movie's theatrical run. /Film's own review, from Josh Spiegel,...

In good news for kids and bad news for parents who don’t want to hear the same movie 50,000 times, Peacock announced Friday that “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” will arrive on the streaming service next week.
The animated family adventure comedy is the first film in the Shrek franchise to hit theaters since the first “Puss in Boots” in 2011, though DreamWorks has produced a few streaming projects featuring Puss in Boots and other characters from the franchise in the interim. “The Last Wish” was as successful as DreamWorks could have wished for, grossing over $444 million worldwide at the box office since it was released in December and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The Witcher has captivated fans with its well-paced character-building and converging storylines. And with season 3 on the way, it remains one of Netflix’s most popular shows.
However, it seems the streamer didn’t expect the series to become as successful as it did. Because, in early discussions about the project, Netflix executives suggested making The Witcher a single movie.
‘The Witcher’ is based on a series of books
Many fans may know the concept of The Witcher from the popular video game series. And while the Netflix project shares similarities with the games, both the game and show are actually based on an eight-book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

Since Puss in Boots’ first appearance in Shrek 2 in 2004, Antonio Banderas has been voicing the fairy tale character and growing alongside him. A sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots film, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After, when Puss in Boots (Banderas) is accidentally killed by a bell and discovers he is down to his ninth, and final, life. After a brush with a mysterious wolf who is determined to take his last life, Puss decides to live the rest of his life in hiding. However, he soon learns about a wishing star that could help them get his lives back. Banderas was excited to take Puss in a different direction for this film, taking him from a sidekick character to something more vulnerable and “human.”

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” landed in theaters this past December with minimal pre-release fanfare, but the “Shrek” franchise’s sixth entry, besides collecting an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature and nearly $400 million at the global box office, has turned out to be one of 2022’s most visually arresting and critically acclaimed animated efforts. The Oscar contender conspicuously blends analog and 3D-rendered animation, employing a hybrid style popularized by “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
The technique isn’t new, as films have been combining formats to one degree or another since at least 1991. However, the difference between “The Beauty and the Beast,” “The Iron Giant” and “Tarzan,” which used 2D backdrops to provide 3D objects a sense of depth, and more recent examples, like “Into the Spider-Verse,” “The Bad Guys” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” is the integration of “hand-drawn” and CGI elements in the foreground...

Teenage FaceTime detectives, talking shells and a donkey: February is an eclectic, not to mention eccentric, month for cinema.
Throughout the year, there is a near-constant deluge of new releases arriving – on the big screen and small – and it’s hard to know which to prioritise. This new column will pick out the five best films for you to move to the top of your watch list each month.
In February, there are plenty of surefire blockbusters on the way – from acclaimed Puss in Boots sequel The Last Wish and new M Night Shyamalan thriller Knock at the Cabin (both 3 February), to Marvel’s wordily titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (17 February). Smaller indies, like Saint Omer, Blue Jean and Joyland, will also be arriving on the 3, 10 and 24 February, respectively.

Until this year, my only Puss in Boots-related wish was that I would never have to sit through another film from the Shrek franchise as long as I lived. I must confess, the unexpectedly entertaining Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has entirely changed my mind!
Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) squandered eight of his nine lives with a devil-may-care panache. He sang, danced and swashbuckled his way through a legendary series of adventures but his melodious pursuit of a giant may have seen the bell toll for the last time on those carefree days. Then a standoff with a foe who cannot be quipped into submission shakes the marmalade marauder to his core.
What happens when the charismatic poster puss of living for tomorrow suddenly fears he will not make it through today? Mortality is a mighty foe.

Kids will get a kick out of the sprightly and silly Puss in Boots: The Last Wish – but really, this one is for the millennials. Antonio Banderas’s pint-sized feline rogue, with his thigh-high boots and eyes as big as saucers, became an instant hit when he was introduced in 2004’s Shrek 2. But his follow-up appearances, in the later Shrek sequels and a 2011 spin-off, have played as either wrung out or purely cynical. The Last Wish offers something different and unexpected: Puss has grown up with his audience.
He is now, in exquisitely millennial fashion, suffering from feline burnout. Having already torn through eight of his nine lives (reminder to never go running with the bulls in Pamplona if you’re 15in tall), Puss must now face his mortality. And so, he slinks into his crisis era, complete with a sizable beard and an unshakeable malaise. His end-of-life stupor is interrupted,...

Yes, Avatar: The Way of Water won the box office battle for the seventh straight week. NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell said the company is always eyeing possible deals to bolster its business, citing the 3.8 billion acquisition of DreamWorks Animation in 2016 and Universal’s partnership with Blumhouse Productions.
Shell jumped in Thursday after Comcast president Mike Cavanagh noted new deals have a high hurdle versus investing in existing operations. The execs were asked about M&a on a post-earnings conference call, with particular reference to World Wrestling Entertainment. Vince McMahon, WWE’s majority owner and newly returned executive chairman, is looking to sell, with Comcast considered a logical buyer. WWE Network programming has been popular on Peacock and helped drive subscriber acquisitions since the service took exclusive U.S. streaming rights in 2021. Shell didn’t address WWE but said the conglom led by Brian Roberts would be opportunistic.

Will they or won’t they buy anything? And if so, what? With M&a speculation regularly swirling around the entertainment industry, including NBCUniversal owner Comcast, the cable giant’s executive team was quizzed on its appetite for acquisitions during the company’s earnings conference call on Thursday.
Comcast and NBCUniversal have in the past been mentioned as possible suitors of the likes of film libraries or other intellectual property, sports entertainment powerhouse WWE, parts of Walt Disney and, longer-term, maybe even the likes of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Comcast president Michael Cavanagh reemphasized to analysts on the fourth-quarter earnings conference call that the company weighs up whether any takeover adds enough to the mix given it has enough attractive businesses it wants to invest in and grow. As such, he once again signaled that any potential deal discussions would focus on whether buying a new asset makes financial and strategic sense.

After being dormant for many years, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" revitalized the long-standing "Shrek" spin-off franchise in more ways than one. Through an inspired performance by Antonio Banderas, the sequel featured a shockingly poignant, family-friendly story about accepting the fragility of life. "The Last Wish" raised the personal stakes of the titular character and those around him, without losing what made the "Shrek" universe so much fun in the first place. However, the "Puss in Boots" sequel looks strikingly different from other animated offerings in the film series. Instead of only using the familiar CG animation in which the character originated, "The Last Wish" combined several art styles to bring the existential crisis to life.
If the animation in "The Last Wish" reminded you of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," that's kinda the point. The Miles Morales-led film paved the way for mainstream animation to hop off the...

Now the Oscar race can really begin. The year’s biggest breakout indie hit, A24’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” led the pack of nominees for the 95th Academy Awards that were announced this morning, with 11 nods, including Best Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting Actress (x2) and Supporting Actor. It was followed by Netflix’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” and Searchlight’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” with nine apiece. Warner Bros.’ “Elvis” picked up eight nods and Universal’s “The Fabelmans” took seven.
Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams announced the nominees live on Tuesday from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. It was the first in-person nomination announcement with press in attendance since before the pandemic.
As Steve Pond, TheWrap’s Executive Editor, Awards, noted in his final predictions, with the Academy bigger and more international than ever before, it was likely they would throw several surprises.

Hollywood is becoming exceedingly lazy in getting out new films these days. Maybe it's the hangover from the pandemic, or maybe economics are finally starting to catch up with studios. Regardless, Avatar: The Way of Water stayed comfortably at the top box office spot for the sixth week. James Cameron's film is now the 13th-highest grossing domestic hit and the sixth film (and third Cameron film) to gross 2 billion worldwide. The only new release of note was Missing, the psuedo-sequel to 2019's Searching. Budgeted at a reasonable 7 million, it made back its money in one week. Good reviews (82 on Rotten Tomatoes) could help its legs in the coming weeks...

Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is a bonafide puss in loot, as it will cross the 300M mark globally with today’s grosses included.
The highly reviewed sequel and Shrek spinoff is at 297.8M with Sunday’s worldwide actuals included. Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the adventure has surpassed Croods: The New Age and Encanto to become the third-biggest studio animation title of the pandemic era, both overseas and globally.
Puss 2 currently sits behind two other Universal animated films (Minions: The Rise of Gru and Sing 2) across the pandemic years. In the near-view rear-view, 2022 has now become the first year since 2008 where every DreamWorks animated release outgrossed every Pixar and Disney Animation release during the same year.

There’s no denying that 2022 was not a great year at the box office. The domestic cume for the entire year came to $7.37 billion, down considerably from 2019’s $11.36 billion, and by pre-pandemic standards it was the worst year since 1999. Yes, it was up 64% from 2021’s $4.48 billion cume, but 2021 was largely a dud year until the Memorial Day weekend “reopening.” Comparing just June through December, this year looks like less of an improvement with $4.67 billion for the final seven months compared to 2021’s $3.84 billion. Much of that improvement came from a strong summer, and the lead evaporates away if you compare September through December, with 2021’s cume coming to $2.435 billion, ahead of 2022’s $2.096 billion.
We can only hope that 2023 brings greater box office fortunes, but for now we can celebrate that 2022 ended on a positive note, at least relatively. The overall box office this weekend came to $98.7 million, ahead of last...

As we head into the new year, Avatar: The Way of Water continues its dominance with no sign of slowing down yet. It crossed $1 billion worldwide this week, making it one of just six films ever to hit the ten digits in the first two weeks of its release, and at $1.03 billion it is already the year’s second highest grossing film and the third highest grossing of the 2020s. On the domestic front, the 12 day cume is $317 million, and though the extreme weather and low-grossing Christmas Eve holiday took a chunk out of the second weekend gross, the final numbers actually grew considerably from the estimates reported Sunday. It’s still too early to say whether the box office on The Way of Water will, like James Cameron’s last two films Avatar and Titanic, be another one for the record books, but the strong performance through the holidays...

This Christmas weekend box office looked a lot like last year’s, with a megablockbuster, leading the way, a modest grossing toon in second place, and a slew of other contenders that largely failed to find an audience. The weekend was depressed by having the historically low-grossing Christmas Eve fall on Saturday rather than a weekday (last year the holiday weekend was likewise down as the 24th fell on Friday) and by Storm Elliott which has afflicted a large chunk of the country. The numbers could improve with the actuals, but for now the total box office for the weekend is estimated at just $82.8 million, which is down from last year’s $144 million. The weeks ahead still have strong potential, particularly for the season’s big ticket title Avatar 2, but there’s no denying that the overall slate is not connecting with audiences once again this season.

The holiday season is in full swing, with Christmas falling this Sunday and a few new releases in store for the busy end-of-the-year movie-going rush. This weekend will likely be a notch smaller than last year’s $144 million Christmas-weekend haul, and like last year the three-day numbers will be depressed by having the soft movie-going day of Christmas Eve fall over the weekend. Still, Avatar: The Way of Water should lead a relatively strong finish to the year (remember the overall box office was a brutally low $57.6 million just two weekends ago).
While the newcomers Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Babylon, and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody all have potential, as does the expansion of The Whale, Avatar: The Way of Water remains the major box office story of this weekend and many weekends to come. This is an excerpt from TV Guide Magazine’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Special Collector’s Issue, which is available for international pre-order online at SciFi2021.com and available nationwide on newsstands now. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich previews Season 2 and discusses fans’ critiques. Andrzej Sapkowski’s stories swing from paranormal horror to dark comedy. How do you strike a balance onscreen? Lauren Schmidt Hissrich: In Season 1, especially with all of those short stories from Sapkowski’s The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, we embraced different tones. Going into Season 2, it had been my intention to keep doing it that way, let it go with the flow, but the stories are a little bit more intense. We lean into those darker elements, and I think they perfectly suit the stories. The only thing we really tried to be consistent about was keeping [Geralt’s] sense of humor. In Season 2, we get to meet Geralt’s Witcher brothers.

Netflix obviously has a lot riding on the next chapter of this live-action adaptation. The first run, while opening to middling reviews, managed to generate quite a bit of buzz and shatter the streaming service’s records worldwide. Now, the task will be even more difficult for the producers as they need to not only hit the same high notes, but also excel where they failed in season 1.
That being said, there’s the matter of tonal resonance as well. Henry Cavill’s first outing as Geralt of Rivia was basically an introduction to the world of the Continent, with each short story from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny serving as a standalone narrative. This time around,...

China Censorship Casualty ‘Better Days’ Finally Gets Local Release Date; Well Go Working On U.S. Bow
Exclusive: Another casualty of China’s crackdown on potentially sensitive local films this past summer has been given a lifeline. Derek Tsang’s Better Days will release this Friday in the Middle Kingdom after being okayed just this week. Well Go USA has the movie domestically and was forced to postpone the release this summer when Better Days was shelved by the Chinese authorities. Well Go says it is now finalizing plans for a U.S. date, but nothing is confirmed as yet.

In a muddled pre-holiday weekend, patriotism rather than any individual film was the box office winner in China.
The upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic, which will officially be celebrated Tuesday, has already affected the film-releasing calendar for weeks.
Over the past weekend, the top-scoring films were “The Captain” (previously known as “The Chinese Pilot”) and “Quomolangma” (aka “The Climbers”), neither of which officially release until Monday. Both were given wide previews on Saturday, earning $8.3 million and $6.42 million, respectively, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway.
Another patriotic drama, “My Country, My People,” similarly previewed on Saturday, ahead of a Monday release. Directed by a medley of top directors including Chen Kaige, Ning Hao and Wen Muye, and boasting an ensemble cast that includes Ge You, Huang Bo, Liu Haoran and Kara Hui, it achieved a more modest single-day score of $1.81 million.

With “Jade Dynasty” out front, Chinese action and Asian animation films led the way at the China box office over the past weekend, while the few American titles in play have failed to attract many moviegoers.

Still reeling from the cancellation of the theatrical release of its blockbuster “The Eight Hundred,” production studio Huayi Brothers has been hit with another setback: Its comedy “The Last Wish” has also been quietly pulled from China’s summer lineup. Both films have fallen afoul of China’s increasingly heavy-handed censors.
The unwelcome development comes as Huayi has announced that it expects losses of more than $48 million in the first half of 2019. That will pile onto a reported net loss of RMB1.09 billion (about $160 million) last year, creating a difficult hole for the company to climb out of without a new box-office hit.
Directed by Tian Yusheng, the writer-director of the bankable “The Ex-File” romcom series, “The Last Wish” stars Peng Yuchang (“An Elephant Sitting Still”) and Taiwanese actor Darren Wang in a buddy comedy about a young man with a terminal disease who hopes to lose his virginity before he dies.
