It came as no surprise when Party Down was cancelled. The year was 2010, and the scrappy, glowingly reviewed sitcom about an LA catering company had languished in obscurity for 20 episodes before finally calling it quits. Its paltry viewing figures – dipping as low as 68,000 US viewers for one episode – didn’t help. Nor did the fact that the Starz network was still in its unsteady early days of original programming. To cap this off, Party Down had already seen one cast member, Jane Lynch, leave at the end of season one; the end of season two would see lead Adam Scott poached by Parks and Recreation on NBC. So, all things considered, cancellation was somewhat inevitable. Its revival, though? That’s another story. The six new episodes of Party Down – released weekly on Starz in the US and Lionsgate+ in the UK, beginning this Friday – seemed, for a long time, a mere pipedream.

Director Byung Sung-hyun clearly likes working with Sol Kyung-gu. Their hit pairing in “The Merciless” was invited to Cannes whereas their second collaboration “King Maker” is also an anticipated release for this year.
While “King Maker” awaits release scheduling, it was announced that Sol Kyung-gu has also come on board Byun’s next film, a Netflix original movie tentatively titled “Kill Bok-soon”. Sources close to the production also claim that the actor will also be pairing up with actress extraordinaire Jeon Do-yeon, who has responded positively to the production. This would be the two actors’ third collaboration after “I Wish I Had a Wife” and 2019’s Sewol ferry disaster drama “Birthday”.
“Kill Bok-soon” is an action thriller that deals with the story of a female assassin, with Jeon playing the titular character. It is expected to go on the floors before the end of this year.

This past spring, actor and comedian Drew Droege was performing his one-man show Happy Birthday Doug at the SoHo Playhouse in New York City, when it was cut short in March like the rest of live theater due to social distancing restrictions enforced to reduce harm during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now Droege (known to thousands of fans from his “Chloë” clips, Drunk History, Bob’s Burgers, RuPaul’s Aj and the Queen on Netflix) is thrilled to offer a recorded version of the performance filmed during quarantine on BroadwayHD from producer Michael Urie.

K-pop star Somi is stepping into a new career phase and transforming into a multifaceted artist. The 19-year-old singer - born Ennik Somi Douma - dropped her new song "What You Waiting For" on July 22 accompanied by a dynamic music video. The unveiling is her first project with Interscope Records and marks her official comeback since taking a year-long hiatus after releasing 2019's "Birthday" and "Outta My Head."
It's been a rather productive 12 months for Somi, who took some time to reflect on the trajectory of her career. Although she doesn't mind people's perception of her as a bright and bubbly pop star, she's ready to show fans a different of her - a side they didn't see last year and certainly a side they didn't see when she was a member of the girl group I.O.I. (Ideal of Idol) from 2016 to 2017. In an interview with Popsugar,...

So far, the 2020 box office rebound is real. Time will tell. But early signs remain positive, with this weekend continuing to build on the 12% increase to date over the same period in 2019. Last year the weekend between King Birthday and the Super Bowl took in $105 million. This year has a shot at $125 million, which would be close to a 20% improvement.
If so, thriller “The Turning” (Universal) and action comedy “The Gentlemen” (Stx) will play a minor role in that result, along with the calendar, once again. For distributors setting release dates, the second weekend box-office can be as important as the first. With the Super Bowl looming, opening now is risky.
Fortunately current titles should make up the slack, with newbies doing better than last year, when the combined gross of long-forgotten “The Kid Who Would Be King” and “Serenity” totaled under $12 million. At best, new entries could double that number.

It's been over a decade since The Proposal was released, and Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock just reunited for a very important reason: Betty White. In honor of their former costar's 98th birthday on Jan. 17, Ryan and Sandra spliced together footage of themselves singing "Happy Birthday."
Naturally, they turned the video message into a competition of sorts, fighting over Betty's affection. "From Sandy, who loves you more than Ryan," Sandra said, to which Ryan replied, "From Ryan, who loves you so much more than Sandy. What does Sandy do for you every year? Does she, like, show up and hand-deliver flowers for you, wearing nothing but black socks and a dozen gold bracelets, just like you requested? Doubt it." It's truly the best of the internet today. Watch it below.

Key festival programmers quit last month over the succession issue.
South Korea’s Jeonju International Film Festival (Jiff) organizing committee and its chairman Kim Seung-su have appointed producer Lee Joondong the new festival director today (December 11).
Lee’s appointment will last for three editions starting with next year’s event, which runs April 30-May 9.
The country’s film industry was shaken last month when executive programmer Kim Young-jin, who had previously been the successor apparent to former festival director Lee Choong-jik, walked out with his two other core programming colleagues Lee Sangyong and Jang Byungwon over the issue of who would take the director role.
