A good idea, but a less than acceptable result.
gordoalc23 October 2010
I was interested in watching this movie after seeing the trailer. It seemed like a good, fast-paced action thriller, dealing with meth. Considering I am addicted to Breaking Bad, I thought it would be, at least, entertaining.

The movie has some good elements, and they must have invested quite a bit of money in all of the flying scenes--and there are a lot of them. Unfortunately, this is the only part of the movie that is actually interesting, and well executed. The script seems to be written for a juvenile book, rather than as screenplay. Some jokes are just not the kind of things you would hear someone say, although they may look somewhat funny on paper. There were a couple of moments where I couldn't believe how bad some of the lines were. One of the things I will remember this movie for, is the particularly bad jokes the actors had to say. Since they invested so much into the flying scenes, why not spend some more time and effort into a good script? There were also some obvious technical mistakes with the lighting in some of the scenes, which showed a rather careless attitude towards delivering a polished product. While most of the flying scenes looked good; a lot of the police headquarters scenes looked very cheap. The police chief was good looking enough for an acting role, but; did not match at all, the persona or character required for such a role, nor did the snitch-girlfriend. One memorable moment is when he puts his foot up on the chair while cutting a deal with the main character. It was such an odd and seemingly uncomfortable position, filmed from such a bad angle, that it ruined any little credibility that scene could have produced. Very few of the cops looked like real cops, as they tried too hard to be tough; obviously not succeeding.

Overall, it is a movie for teenagers that are not too critical on either the acting, script, special effects, or corniness of a situation (there were quite a few of those). From that perspective, it can actually be an enjoyable experience. But for a mature audience, this film simply will not work.

However, it was a good idea, and I hope the Director takes advantage of the opportunity and learns from the mistakes made in this production, in order to not repeat them in the future.

113 minutes... for what?
AndreasHardcastle7 December 2010
Your usual brainless action flick that still entertains you enough when all the good films are already rented out is usually about 90 minutes. Why they made this horrible ride 23 minutes longer is beyond my comprehension because the movie just doesn't have enough substance for that. The basic story of some "cool" guys drug trafficking with airplanes, getting mixed up in some bad stuff and in the end pulling off a "glorious" rescue mission that makes them the good guys COULD be entertaining enough as a basis. Unfortunately we get confronted with dialogue that is barely more interesting then the white pages, acting that makes Arnold Schwarzenegger look like a Oscar winner and action scenes that, except for the showdown, are so boring that not even an "exciting" soundtrack and fast cuts can make it really interesting. And even the showdown isn't that cool.

Save your money for something else, you'll only end up very angry if you don't.

Horrible script
qualityguyftl9 November 2010
I wish I could give this film a higher rating but I just can't, not only is the script horrible, the acting is OK at best. I saw this movie because Brandon Quinn is in it. I thought his performance in "Thirst" was very good, but in "Kill Speed" the lines the poor guy has to deliver are so awful I just cringed at times. The concept and plot of the movie are good as are the flying scenes but the acting is so bad (especially Christian Monzon) he is a breathtaking man but he needs to stay focused on his modeling career because acting is not his forte. When the most accomplished actor in your cast is Tom Arnold you should be concerned, very concerned. Skip this one, it's just that bad overall. I do want to say that I hope Brandon Quinn gets some better film roles because he has the talent i.e. Thirst, he just needs a good script.

A below average B movie with some nice flying scenes
Jammer-1213 April 2011
I watched this with a couple of pilot buddies of mine. I'll start with what I liked because the list is quite small.

The flying. Apart from a few shots which were obviously CGI, the rest were actual aircraft actually flying, and the production team did a great job of making them look and sound fantastic. The fact the producers chose to go down that route instead of doing them entirely in CG deserves some credit.

But the list of gross factual errors, bad dialog, silly direction, and holes in what is already a paper thin plot pales in comparison with the bad pacing. For me, the pacing totally ruined any enjoyment I might have received from this film. One of the action scenes in the middle of the film was far better done than the one at the end so the second half of the film felt rather anti-climatic.

Wow..... I would rather paper cut my eyes

Than watch the acting in this movie again. Movies like this should never hit the shelf and burned. I think that if nick carter is going to be in movies, maybe he should be an extra so he can sit back and take notes. He is retarded thinking he's ghetto or even an ounce of ghetto. He dresses like that in real life so you would think he would be a little more natural at it. I would never watch a movie with nick carter in it again. I didn't even watch the whole thing someone was watching it and had to beg them to turn it off. I hope he reads these review so hopefully he can see how ridiculous he looks and how horrible his acting is. There is not even an ounce of talent. Probably wouldn't be that bad of a movie if he wasn't in it.

Amazing Trailer...
dwashjohnson19 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS**

I remember watching the trailer and thinking, this seems legit! After watching the movie, the trailer was made to trick people into thinking those exact thoughts.

While I still liked the concept, the best parts were involving the plane flying scenes, where there was little to no dialogue. I don't mind Andrew Keegan, he did a decent job, but some of his lines just made me cringe. The script was so poorly written and the editing job was horrible. There would be extended seconds added onto scenes that should have been cut that weren't, making the extension awkward.

I also wondered if Nick Carter is that horrible of an actor or did the role call for him to be an over the top douche bag? His character was annoying and just made me think, honestly, who would hang out with this guy?

I really couldn't decide what was worst, the acting or the screenplay. Some of the one-liners were just awful and the acting of the supporting cast was bad at best. I will admit though that the main drug cartel guy did a good job. I sadly was routing for him to shoot down the planes of the "good" guys.

So all in all, I would not recommend this movie to anyone, except people who find planes and drug running fascinating. Once again, the concept was awesome, but the delivery of the movie fell short of the expectations the trailer teased!

three young daredevil pilots get caught running meth for a Mexican cartel and are offered a deal to rescue a DIA agent captured by the cartel, in exchange for their freedom
onnophrys23 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
It is not that bad, but if you expect a film about meth, this will not be for you. The film is more about the pilots and what they have to do to stay out of jail after they've been smoked out by the DIA. The acting is not supreme but overall definitely acceptable. This is more an all round entertainment film for those who like some action some silly jokes (they're actually quite funny if you like this kind of humor) and a lot of nice flying scenes. You can do a lot worse than watch this film and personally, I liked it. On a dreary Sunday afternoon, you cannot go wrong with this one. And for those who might be interested, somewhere in the middle of the film there's a lovely version of tears for fears' 'head over heels'

Awesome Experimental Aircraft Action
mike-snow23 November 2010
The plot and story are above average. The acting is above average. The action matches any thing in the Fast and the Furious films. The best part of this film is exposure to viewer of these new kind of plastic aircraft. The stunts, and action was real. There is none of this trick photography, and green screen stunts. The action is based on real life kind of flying done by experimental aircraft. These aircraft are not a fantasy waiting to be built. These kind of aircraft are flying now. Imagine being able to fly yourself across the country at 300 miles per hours. I was impressed with the film. I plan to buy the DVD when it comes out.

Fun film for the most part
narayan-66 July 2012
This was an enjoyable film for pilots as the action was quite real and some of the technical aspects of flying were accurate. For example, in the beginning there was a scene where the aircraft needed a hot start and the main character had to wait it out on the runway to get the plane restarted. On the other hand, flying through downtown LA was clearly dumb. At times the humor was cheesy, but overall it was fun to watch with the great flying sequences.

The main characters were likable and real. The outcome at the end was far-fetched considering the scale of the crimes, but I don't think that was the aim of the movie.

Ordinary language vs thrilling flight sequences
robertemerald24 January 2019
The problem with this movie is that it is corny. The script is very ordinary, so much so that you get a strong sense of deja vu with every word spoken. It's as if it was written by a paint by numbers manual for screenwriters. The leads do their best with the material. The lesser stars are wooden. The plot seems a little deja vu too, although the overall concept is far more convincing for a movie idea: three good-looking young men with their fast, modern small aircraft, embark on a high-octane adventure. And indeed, the flight sequences are riveting, sufficiently thrilling and populous to ensure that most will happily get through the movie, though without becoming engaged or excited. I can't think of too many other movies that involve precisely three pilots working together in a very high-tech game, although there are of course movies involving daring flights. With a better zest for movie-making this piece could easily have competed with the tv show Animal Kingdom or the movie Point Break. Two or three of the actors have the lustre but are given no opportunity to shine (including the bad guy). I also found the dial on morality here to be chronically downplayed, a blow to believability. There is an initial scenario that impressed me a little, being comic and gritty at the same time, but this wasn't a good indicator of how the movie was to track, indeed, it was only to introduce a couple of very minor players. Further attempts at humour were bland. The soundtrack was modern, and in this at least, somewhat creative. This would be a good idea for a movie to revisit if someone could spend the time to up the tension and unpredictability. Super fast planes alone was not enough.

Fanastic Indy action film
rogersesq26 October 2010
I was fortunate to see this film at last year's AFM market in LA and I found this film to be very enjoyable. The flying scenes are the best I've seen since Top Gun as I've heard from producers that all of actors did their scenes while actually flying in the planes, something apparently never done before in any film. This film could be release in an IMAX theater the flying scenes are that good.

The acting is solid, plot is well developed, you will be surprised by some of the cameos, and there are some funny scenes in this film.

I highly recommend it as fun action adventure film and I would love to know where I can get a Blue Ray DVD!

Good fun movie
Nadja-627 October 2011
Good acting, great character development, and some humour. What more could you ask for? This was a lot better than many of the higher budget films I have seen. I really liked the characters and the story line - nothing earth shattering or unexpected, but an enjoyable movie all around. The storyline was predictable, but what I found the best was the characters. The movie took a little time getting started, it was slow and kinda weird - I guess laying the feeling of the drug trade and what it does, but I do not feel it lent anything to the movie as a whole. If you can hold on watching long enough to get to met Stayger and the rest of the Fly Boys, the story really gets going along at a good clip from there. I could not stop thinking about Andrew Keegan and how he reminded me of Heath Ledger. I would recommend this movie to anyone wanting just a plain old good story.

High Energy, Fun, Action Movie with a GREAT Soundtrack!
thing1n2d27 October 2010
This movie has one of the best looking cast. All the leads - Brandon Quinn, Andrew Keegan, Nick Carter and Natalia Cigliutti are beautiful. Nick Carter is really good and funny as Foreman. It's also got nice cameo roles by Robert Patrick, Tom Arnold and Shawnee Smith.

Kill Speed has a lot of energy and is a fun movie to watch. There's a lot of subtle jokes and humor you'll catch if you pay attention.

The airplane/jet sequences are amazing.

The soundtrack rocks, especially, the "Head Over Heels" cover! It's definitely the kind of movie you'll want to see in a theater or with a great home sound system. Hopefully, they'll release a soundtrack as well.

Definitely worth watching if you just want to be entertained.

Stopped after the first five minutes...
CaptainLombard3326 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
(Rating based solely on the first five minutes only)

I was retroactively watching some of Shawnee Smith's films and saw this in her filmography, so I found it online. To my surprise, Shawnee pops up right at the beginning of the film as the meth-addicted wife of Tom Arnold's character. She has some memorable moments as she paints her toenails well outside the lines due to being strung out, and then a bit of mania as her meth highball hits her system.

Then, she died during a confrontation between Arnold's meth dealer hubby and some representatives of the cartel competition, so I didn't need to see the rest. She played the part of an addict deep into a meth addiction quite well, they even gave her some dental prosthetics to make her teeth look rotted. It's like an alternate universe of "Saw," where Amanda met Tom Arnold's character rather than experienced Jigsaw's cold-turkey method with the reverse bear trap.

The rest of the film might be enjoyable, it's your call. If you're a fan of Shawnee Smith, save it for a rental, she'd killed off less than 5 minutes in.

I'm giving Shawnee's performance eight stars. Wonder how they got her into it? Maybe she was friends with someone in the production? Seems the film is rife with cameos, so maybe they particularly sought her out to add to the cameo list.

I should give a shout out to Arnold, who provides some humor after accidentally shooting his wife "Sorry hon!" And then, after a fire breaks out in his meth lab, he quickly pulls out a fire extinguisher to douse the flames....And it's so old that it gives one sad puff and dies.

Why they made it?
eddmike22 February 2019
I suffered through the whole feature. I had to watch it because it is my job. Please, for your own sake, skip the damn thing.
