Alone at last! (after interruptions)
jotix10017 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Antoine, a widower of a certain age, is having a passionate affair with the beautiful, and much younger, Maria. Antoine who lives in the country, is surprised to find the arrival of his children. He had forgotten the anniversary of his wife's death coming up, thus the intrusion of his family that interrupts his life, without a clue about what is really going on with him. Maxime, his son comes with Helene and two children. Alice arrives alone from Paris. Julien, the only son who has stayed close to his origins, is the only one of Antoine's children that lives near the father.

No one knows about the romance Antoine is having with Maria. During the children's stay, Maxime, who is having financial problems, realizes he has extended himself; he cannot even get cash from an ATM. Alice had invited a mysterious man, David, a sort of analyst, to try to find out what is wrong with his father. Helene suspects Maxime of pursuing Maria. She could not be more wrong, although the damage is done. It is Maria who takes the matter in her hands to reveal the real situation. Julien has deep secrets that he has kept from his father, afraid of a rejection because he is a transvestite.

A fun film directed and written by Bruno Herbulot for French television, shown recently on cable. The comedy has good moments with its light touch about what is making this family tick. The great Michel Aumont plays Antoine with his usual elegance, even though he is a man in love with his country surroundings. The beautiful Nozha Khouadra is seen as Maria. The ensemble cast does what was expected of them. The funny Eric Elmosnino has some good moments. Even the obnoxious white owl seems to be having watching these folks and their antics.
