Once upon a time, TV premieres would slow down around this time of year, with broadcast networks saving their new shows until the fall.
Thankfully, we now have streaming services, which means we have a constant stream of content year-round.
Check out what we recommend for you this week.

Fatal Attraction (Paramount+)
Genuine question, are any of you tuning in for Fatal Attraction?
We know the reception has been south of lukewarm, and, hey, different strokes for different folks and all that, but it's not that bad, right?
In an all-new episode, Alex definitely turns it up a notch with her behavior, and at the very least, you'll want to tune in for how things escalate between these two moving forward.

Done right, a cliffhanger can be the most effective plot device on television.
The best can leave you tearing out your hair, wishing the next episode was available immediately. The greatest offer mystery by teasing answers but never making the outcome obvious. The worst, the ones that make you want to stop watching a show, are often those that “jump the shark”.
For many years, the benchmark for great cliffhangers was the “Who shot Jr?” storyline on Dallas, the American TV show that caused a media storm in 1980. So widely talked about was the twist that Jimmy Carter even joked about the fictional murder during his second presidential campaign.
The cliffhanger soon developed into something more than just being a “whodunit”. Sitcoms – such as The Office US and Friends – went on to incorporate the device to tease relationships, keeping viewers coming back for resolution. Soaps, from EastEnders to Neighbours, have...

The walls that long separated the L.A.-based Television Academy and its New York counterpart, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, continue to be torn down. In the latest agreement between the two orgs, several more categories have been realigned to focus on genre, rather than dayparts, as a way to divide eligibility between the Primetime and Daytime Emmys.
“We’re no longer looking at the clock to decide what’s daytime, and what’s primetime,” NATAS president/CEO Adam Sharp told Variety. “That just no longer makes sense, in the way consumers currently watch TV. I think this realignment reflects that and allows us to have more clarity between the two competitions. I think it also makes it a lot easier for creators in our community who were getting increasingly confused — ‘I produce a show for a streaming platform, that I intend to be consumed at all different times.

The holiday season is almost here and Amazon Prime is getting in the mood with its list of December 2021 releases. Sure there are the usual Christmas movies to be found but the real gift this month are two big original titles.
The sixth and final season of beloved sci-fi series The Expanse premieres on Dec. 10. Amazon is doing its usual release strategy of three episodes on the premiere day followed by a weekly schedule so there’s still some time to be spent with the crew of the Rocinante. The other big ticket item is the Desi and Lucy biopic Being the Ricardos on Dec. 21. Sure, Aaron Sorkin seems to be completely disinterested in I Love Lucy and Nicole Kidman bears no passing resemblance to the iconic comedienne whatsoever but uh…it’s a movie!

The Daytime Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, May 25. But this year’s awards are a little different from last year’s. These nominations are for soap operas, talk shows, game shows, and other genres that will be presented during a CBS telecast one month from today on June 25. Then on June 28 nominations will be announced in other fields including children’s, animated, and lifestyle programming, with those winners to be revealed during online streaming ceremonies on July 17-18. So who made the cut in this round? Scroll down for the full list.
The voting process for the Daytime Emmys differs significantly from their prime time counterparts. The nominees were selected by panels that ranged from 10 to 50 members who reviewed every submission in the category. The panelists scored those submissions individually instead of ranking them in order of preference. The highest scorers were the ones who made the cut as nominees.

Umc, the AMC Networks-owned streaming service focused on Black TV and film, will rebrand as Allblk in January.
The new name and look comes on the heels of a corporate realignment of the service. Last week, AMC Networks shifted it under the aegis of Gm Brett Dismuke along with linear network We tv.
Robert L. Johnson, the businessman known for founding BET, created Umc (short for Urban Movie Channel) in 2014. Johnson’s Rlj Entertainment, which also had streaming assets like Acorn TV, was acquired by AMC Networks in 2018.
“Umc began as a distribution model for Black creatives to directly reach the then largely underserved African-American audience without the restrictions of legacy content development and traditional broadcast models,” Johnson said in a statement. “As technology advances and programming demands from our community evolve, the rebranded Allblk will be well positioned to breakout as the preeminent streaming destination for viewers seeking Black entertainment.

Exclusive: Umc, the AMC Networks streaming service with a focus on Black film and TV, has renewed four of its original series including the top-rated Craig Ross Jr.’s Monogamy and A House Divided, which will both return for their third seasons.
The streamer also gave Season 2 renewals to rookies Double Cross and Stuck With You, part of a renewed focus on originals that has seen a new series premiere almost every month on the service in 2020. That has helped spur a subscriber surge of 200% over the past 12 months, according to the network, with about half that total coming since the coronavirus lockdown that began in March.
Debuting in May 2018, Craig Ross Jr.’s Monogamy follows four troubled couples who sign up for an experiment called “swap therapy” in order to determine if their relationships are worth saving or if they should walk away for good. The series stars Caryn Ward Ross,...

It goes without saying that the pandemic is keeping everyone stuck inside with little to do besides watch television, play video games, and read. Here’s some great news, though: There’s plenty coming to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime in May, so put away the books and the games, and get ready to binge some excellent shows and films.
On Netflix, you can catch some notable comedy entries next month like the Jim Carrey-led Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Fun with Dick and Jane, while action-horror fans may be delighted to hear that multiple Underworld films will be dropping on the service. The lesser-known Jarhead trilogy will be available on the 1st, and the first two pics in the Back to the Future trilogy will join the third film for streaming. Dozens more movies and shows will join these as well to ensure that Netflix reigns as...
