It’s unsurprising that Adam Sandler’s “Spaceman” is an immediate #1 for Netflix, but you have to wonder if the Sandler audience knew what it was getting: It’s the story of a long-distance solo astronaut who encounters loneliness and a mutant spider on his journey to Venus. Directed by Johan Renck, who won a DGA Award for his direction of HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Reviews are mediocre and, per Netflix practice, it had token one-week showings in limited theaters. “Spaceman: debuted on the streamer March 1 and it will be interesting to see what kind of hold it maintains. For now, it’s another example of how Sandler uses his Netflix deal to expand his scope. (The film was produced by Channing Tatum’s Free Association.)
The film costars Carey Mulligan, currently a Best Actress Oscar nominee for another Netflix original, “Maestro.

Cliffhanger producer and The Legend of Hercules director Renny Harlin is back with another hard-hitting action film that aims to hit you like a ton of bricks. Hailing from Vertical, The Bricklayer stars Aaron Eckhart and revolves around a rogue insurgent blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it appear the agency is responsible. As other nations turn against the U.S., the CIA must lure Steve Vail (Eckhart) – their most brilliant and rebellious operative – out of retirement. With an elite and deadly skill set, Vail is tasked with helping clear the agency’s name, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
Bringing pain alongside Steve to those who deserve it most is Nina Dobrev’s Kate, a young, no-nonsense agent with a penchant for violence and a mean trigger finger. Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, and Ilfenesh Hadera also star as primary cast members.

After nearly a decade of talking about it, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is finally coming our way later this year, thanks to the folks at Blumhouse. The company behind hits like "The Black Phone" and "The Purge" is bringing the beloved series of video games to life, meaning some animatronic murder bears will be gracing the silver screen this Halloween season. But a small movie from a couple of years ago may have beat Blumhouse to the punch, and Nicolas Cage was the man doing the punching.
In early 2021, as the pandemic was still raging on, Screen Media Films released "Willy's Wonderland," which features Cage as an unnamed janitor with no dialogue in a film that, as it happens, seems to resemble "Five Nights at Freddy's" an awful lot. (Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
It happens every so often: two Hollywood movies come out around the same time, with a shockingly similar premise. There was "Top Gun" and "Iron Eagle" in 1986, "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano" in 1997, and in more recent times, "Hercules" and "The Legend of Hercules" in 2014. But the most infamous of these twin films battles took place in the summer of '98, when "Deep Impact" went up against "Armageddon" as the two asteroid disaster flicks battled it out for box office supremacy. Ultimately, Michael Bay's "Armageddon" came out on top.
It's not as though director Mimi Leder's "Deep Impact" was a failure — in fact, by many metrics, it was a gigantic success. It's just that it wasn't quite as big as Bay's bombastic spectacle starring Bruce Willis,...

2014 was an interesting year for the Hercules brand. Two films came out surrounding the well-known hero, one of them featured Dwayne Johnson and grossed over $200 million worldwide. However, the first one to come out was a January picture, The Legend of Hercules, with Twilight alum Kellan Lutz. It follows the title character, who’s exiled by his father after the discovery of forbidden love. Hercules is sold into slavery and the strongman endures plenty of battles and death matches to fight his way out of his new kingdom. Not surprisingly, The Legend of Hercules was met with terrible reviews

With a myriad of films under their belt, from their beginnings as king of the mockbuster to their foray into original film making, it’s no secret we’re big fans of these bastions of the direct to DVD market and have reviewed a Lot of their output! With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…

The year is off to a strange start, even at the box office. Last weekend saw “Hidden Figures” win in a rare race among three titles for the top spot, but this weekend looks even more complicated. Multiple films will vie for no. 1 — and “Rogue One” isn’t one of them.
Among last weekend’s top grossers, the only one in the hunt is “Hidden Figures.” It will likely will drop to the high teens, and the most likely challenger is the first national expansion of “Patriots Day.” There will also bean even wider break for the major crossover success that is “La La Land,” with “Live By Night” and “Silence” also expanding, if to considerably less effect.
Three new films will open with Paramount’s “Monster Trucks,” Stx’s “Bye Bye Man,” and Open Road’s “Sleepless.” All told, that’s seven films moving into more theaters, a traffic...

Will Skiptrace be remembered as a seminal Jackie Chan, Renny Harlin or even Johnny Knoxville classic? No. This Englishified Chinese import is silly beyond its cultural appropriation, and as unexpected as it is witty (which is not very much). Numerous scenes are driven by Knoxville referencing his “ding dong” while Chan punches thugs in their respective “ding dongs,” so we’re not even talking Walking Tall sensibilities – but with Chan involved, at least we’re getting an honorable approach to poetic action choreography. Sure, Chan might be striking pelvic regions with no remorse, but sequences flow and aren’t drenched in the ugliness of Harlin’s The Legend Of Hercules grossness. For what Skiptrace is, it never re-writes the mold – but maybe it doesn’t have to given the involved talents?
Kidding. Have the mighty (a questionable descriptor in some cases here) really fallen this hard?

Liam Garrigan, who plays King Arthur on Once Upon A Time, will again play the character in Transformers: The Last Knight.
Transformers: The Last Knight seems to be shaping up as a different kind of entry in the ultra-lucrative film franchise. Currently in production, director Michael Bay’s fifth go with the protean anthropomorphic automaton film series is taking the world-wrecking rampages into the intriguing expositional corner of Arthurian legend. In fact, the film has just cast an actor to play the ancient lore’s fated eponymous regent himself.
According to Mashable, the one and only King Arthur Pendragon is, indeed, jumping into the Autobots vs. Decepticon drama of Transformers: The Last Knight, seemingly confirmed with the reported casting of Liam Garrigan for the part. Of course, fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time might be surprised to hear that, seeing as Garrigan already has been...

A new Masters of the Universe movie has been in the works for years now, but it's finally beginning to gain some traction with McG likely to take the helm for Sony Pictures. In fact, it appears as if the filmmaker has already started meeting with actors, as Twilight star Kellan Lutz has revealed today that he may be in early discussions for it. However, he doesn't specify who exactly he's being eyed for. Hey @HeManTheMovie and all Motu fans, Had an amazing meeting with @McGsWonderland and @ItsMaryViola talking Motu! Its In Great Hands!

It seems to be a day of good news for long-gestating adaptations in Hollywood. Earlier this morning we reported that Justin Lin was being eyed by Warner Bros. to take the helm of Akira, and now it appears as if Sony is looking to get one of their projects out of development hell as well, with news that Kellan Lutz is in talks with the studio to take the lead role in Masters of the Universe.
The news comes via the actor’s Twitter account, where he revealed that he’s had a meeting with director McG and Mary Viola, the president of McG’s production company.

In his 11-year career Twilight star Kellan Lutz has played Hercules and worked with Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford.
But he.d never experienced anything like the highs- and challenges- of collaborating with director Shane Abbess in the futuristic sci-fi thriller SFv1.
Lutz plays Sy, a former nurse who is now a drifter with a haunted past. Sy forms an unlikely alliance with Kane (Daniel MacPherson), a lieutenant who works for off-world military contractor Exor. In a race against time they set out to rescue Kane.s young daughter Indi (Teagan Croft) amid an impending global crisis precipitated by Exor.
.This is completely different from anything I.ve ever done; it has so much heart,. the Us actor tells If from the set in Sydney.
.I had never been part of a movie that was so emotional, with so much stress and trauma.

Yesterday we found out that producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, Punisher: Dirty Laundry) would team with Stewart Yost to co-direct a dark new superhero series for HBO titled Gods And Secrets, which is said to be (and very much sounds to be) inspired by Alan Moore's Watchmen. Now The Wrap reports that Denise Richards (Wild Things, Starship Troopers, The World Is Not Enough) and Jane Seymour (Live And Let Die, How I Met Your Mother, Battlestar Galactica) have joined the cast in unspecified roles. Gods And Secrets will focus on the exploits of a superteam known as the "Guardians of Justice", and will explore "the darker ramifications of a world filled with superheroes — for the people they protect and the famous heroes themselves." Former WWE Superstar Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga), Kellan Lutz (The Legend Of Hercules), Sharni Vinson (You're Next) and Andy Milonakis will also star,...

Adi Shankar, the producer behind the 'Bootleg Universe' one-shot films Power/Rangers & The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and 2012's Dredd will make his directorial debut with HBO's Gods And Secrets. According to Deadline, Shankar will team up with Stewart Yost to co-direct this dark superhero drama that's said to be inspired by Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, Watchmen. The drama will feature an original team named 'Guardians Of Justice', and explore the more secretive and shady aspects of celebrity culture by applying it to superheroes. The series is set to star WWE's Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga), Kellan Lutz (The Legend Of Hercules), Sharni Vinson (You're Next) and Andy Milonakis. The core premise appears intruiging, while the project's placement on HBO should be enough to pique most people's interest. The cast is admittedly rather uninspiring, but Shankar has impressed in the past with his Bootleg one-shots.

<< Continued from "Weekend Report: 'Jupiter Ascending' Crushed by Super 'SpongeBob'"Playing at 3,181 locations, Jupiter Ascending opened in third place with a very disappointing $18.4 million this weekend. It also doesn't help that the Wachowski brand is essentially worthless now: the massive amount of goodwill generated by The Matrix has faded thanks to two lukewarm sequels followed by...
