This film was produced for a contest at the Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green, KY as a 48-hour film contest, but the film was shot in Northfield, KY (a 6th Class City in the east end of Louisville, KY). Filming a "space drama" in less than 48-hours is not easy on a small or zero budget.
Making the "space ship" was a real challenge. The space ship was an outdoor gazebo with blue tarps on all four sides. The corner posts had radios and even an old radio tube tester as part of the set-design to be unusual equipment to add production value. The official bucket seats for the spacecraft were the normal picnic table chairs that sat in the gazebo. This same set was used for other films produced by Hon. Brennan James Callan, Col., at the same location.
The small cast meant that there had to have a villain to be a secret member of the crew who had been the Captain of the crew as this was the needed plot-twist to cover her true identity. It was a great way to resolve having a small cast.
When Brennan was not in the scene, he was operating the videocamera. When Stacey was not in the shot, he was assisting to operate the camera. Due to the tight confines of the "space ship," this worked out better than trying to lift one of the blue tarps, thereby changing the lighting.
Brennan's methods for 48-hour contests was to write the movie on Friday night without the actors, then have the set built overnight. When the actors show up on Saturday morning, the set is ready to go and the filming should be done in 3-5 hours; then almost everyone goes home. It means that no one stays up long hours getting irritable. It keeps cast/crew focused on precise jobs/roles and everyone still likes one another at the end of the weekend.
