This movie was filmed on a $5000 budget. The majority of the budget went toward paying the actors and renting locations as the executive producer/director handled the majority of the crew and post work himself to cut costs.
Queen Bee portrayed by Bianca McMillian was inspired by Vera in the movie, Harlem Nights, portrayed by the late Della Reese.
The characters, Quentin & Javelin Ross were heavily inspired by Jules Whitfield and Vincent Vega of Pulp Fiction, the director's favorite film. The scene where Javelin interrogates Andre pays homage to the scene where Jules Whitfield interrogates Brad in Pulp Fiction.
Although the outburst by Queen Bee after being shot in the kitchen was written in the script, the majority of it was actress Bianca McMillian's own improvisation.
All bar scenes in the movie were shot in a real and active bar during business hours. The production had permission to shoot on location with the understanding nobody would interfere with the customers. The people talking in the background are real people conversing inside of the bar with no regard for the production taking place. Multiple takes had to be recorded knowing this would be an issue in post production. Due to the shotgun mic used, most of the conversations are inaudible and were faded together in post to seem seamless and intentional.
