Highly metaphorical movie

'Saari Raat' aka the entire night is an adaptation of famous Indian playwright Badal Sarkar's (1925-2011) masterpiece drama 'saari raat'. The movie revolves around the plot than an married couple on vacation is stuck due to heavy rain and takes shelter in a broken down house where they meet a strange old man . There is no other character except the trio, however the strange night is itself a character. The couple being played by Ritwick Chakroborty and Konkona Sen Sharma . Although there are very few dialogues by Ritwick, he has done well as a ideal husband and familyman. The facial expressions of Konkona conveys most dialogues. However , Anjan Dutta as the old man presents a mind-blowing acting. One of the key feature of the movie is cinematography . There has been perfect use of light and shadows and a great deal of poetry. The movie advances with an extensive use of imagery and metaphors. The seven years of married life of Konkona symbolises the entrapment of the soul in the worldly woes. The powerful unforgettable narrative once again establises Aparna Sen as one of the best directors of Indian cinema.

A very powerful and engaging movie. A great use of lights and shadows. A mysterious narrative and unique representation of human thoughts. Aparna Sen played really well with the thought processing and this movie will keep you thinking for a while. Great acting from all 3 actors. A dramatic representation of the mind activity at night time. Kudos to the whole team for making such a great film. For me, a slight lack was the clearance of the story at the end. It could be a more elaborating for audiences to grasp the power of the movie. A 9/10 is must for this movie........ Konkana, Anjan Dutt and Ritwick were brilliant.
