Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (TV Series)
We Dream of Machine Elves (2019)
Ice-T: Sergeant Odafin 'Fin' Tutuola
Quotes
-
Odafin Tutuola : She give you anything?
Amanda Rollins : She kept going on about machine elves.
Odafin Tutuola : She's tripping out.
Amanda Rollins : Yeah. Drugs or a psychotic break or both.
Katriona Tamin : [calling on the radio] Sergeant, I may have something.
Odafin Tutuola : On the way.
-
Odafin Tutuola : Meghan's still not making any sense. She said she got into some kind of chariot with no horse.
Katriona Tamin : [showing him her tablet] Like this?
Odafin Tutuola : Pedicab with leopard-print seats. That could be it.
Katriona Tamin : Traffic cams caught 'em up at Greenwich and 7th, and then lost 'em. And with the leopard-print seats, we got an outlier. It might make him easier to find.
Odafin Tutuola : Okay, send that still to Rollins, and then we'll start walking.
-
Katriona Tamin : They tried to bury her alive.
Amanda Rollins : Or got her to do it. She mentioned digging her own grave.
Odafin Tutuola : What the hell did they do to this girl?
-
Olivia Benson : So, the brownstone here with the red door was bought 30 years ago by a foundation for radical therapy, and gifted to Julius Adler for his institute.
Dominick Carisi Jr. : He's the white-bearded wizard?
Amanda Rollins : Dr. Julius Adler, an esteemed professor of radical psychiatry at Tompkins Square, a prolific author, and...
Odafin Tutuola : And a freak. He uses psychedelics as a cure-all.
Amanda Rollins : In controlled, clinical studies.
Katriona Tamin : I ran the building. It's got nonprofit status. Seven complaints over the last year. Noise, kids partying, a cello being thrown out a third-story window.
Dominick Carisi Jr. : And both victims remember going into that brownstone? Can they ID him?
Olivia Benson : No, but Freja was clearly triggered. Now, she thinks she remembers the red door and the high stoop.
Dominick Carisi Jr. : She thinks. She also remembered trolls.
Katriona Tamin : There's reason to believe he has DMT and other psychedelics inside.
Dominick Carisi Jr. : But if he's running clinical trials, that may not be illegal.
Odafin Tutuola : Come on, Carisi, you can trust us.
Dominick Carisi Jr. : I do, Fin, but every time I go out on a limb for you guys, somebody saws it off. Look, it's an academic institute. I need some patina of probable cause.
Odafin Tutuola : Patina?
Katriona Tamin : That guy was really a cop?
-
Tara Crane : Oh, my god. Uh, we've been texting Meghan. Is she okay?
Odafin Tutuola : Not really. When did you see her last?
Courtney Holden : Saturday night at... at Fiddlesticks in Greenwich Village.
Katriona Tamin : Were you girls doing any drugs?
Tara Crane : No, just fireball shots. Meghan wanted to call her boyfriend, we went ahead, she never showed up.
Odafin Tutuola : And you didn't think to call the police?
Courtney Holden : We... we were here to party. It was our first time in New York.
-
Officer Kivlahan : We got a 911 call. Screaming woman dumped out of a pedicab.
Odafin Tutuola : They get a look at the driver?
Officer Kivlahan : Not really. Said he had on a top hat. We get here, she's blindfolded, hands tied, nothing on her.
Katriona Tamin : She say anything?
Officer Kivlahan : Some language I never heard.
-
Odafin Tutuola : [watching a surveillance feed] How long are we gonna let this guy hit on Rollins?
Olivia Benson : We're gonna wait for probable cause.
Katriona Tamin : Or machine elves?
[seeing Benson's look]
Katriona Tamin : Sorry. I don't believe in regular psychiatry, let alone this.
Olivia Benson : I'm with Kat. Paying someone to listen to you talk?
Olivia Benson : Guys, please.
-
Odafin Tutuola : [after Kat contacts Meghan's parents] What's she doing in New York?
Katriona Tamin : Bachelorette party.
Odafin Tutuola : And the other girls didn't report her missing?
Katriona Tamin : Yeah. Some friends.
-
Katriona Tamin : What's our play?
Odafin Tutuola : Well, he's a shrink, so he's gonna try to read us. So suss him out, let him talk.
-
Odafin Tutuola : Are you Julius Adler?
Dr. Julius Adler : Yes, I am. Uh, is this about the cello?
Katriona Tamin : Actually, it's about the kidnapping of three young women.
Dr. Julius Adler : Oh, that's horrible.
Odafin Tutuola : We think they may have been brought here.
Katriona Tamin : You recognize any of these women?
Dr. Julius Adler : [looking at pictures] Uh, no. No, no. But w-we have so many, uh, students and teachers, patients coming in and out. They could've audited a class or an open house.
Katriona Tamin : Actually, I don't think that's it. They said that they were raped and drugged here.
Dr. Julius Adler : Really? Tell me about that. W-What... what exactly did they say?
Odafin Tutuola : That's confidential.
Dr. Julius Adler : Oh. Well, I'm a good therapist, but even I can't explain behavior you won't describe.
Katriona Tamin : Well, I can tell you that they were terrified.
Dr. Julius Adler : The work that we do here, uh, pushes boundaries. Is it possible that while they were in process, uh, feelings of helplessness emerged or traumatic memories resurfaced?
Odafin Tutuola : Maybe. Why don't we come inside and you could show us where these memories surfaced?
Dr. Julius Adler : Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm assuming you don't have a warrant? Uh, like you, I have to respect confidentiality. I hope that this was productive.
-
Odafin Tutuola : What's up with that van? White male.
Katriona Tamin : Look like our pedicab driver?
Olivia Benson : Industrial tanks. Maybe ether?
Odafin Tutuola : I knew it. They're cooking their own drugs.
-
Odafin Tutuola : [after Dr. Adler's mental break in the interrogation room] I've got an ambulance on the way.
Deputy Chief Christian Garland : Could this be an elaborate act?
Olivia Benson : If you ask me, he's just escaped.
