Jeah?!
Who needs Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week when you can watch Nat Geo Wild’s SharkFest? Well, that's Ryan Lochte's thinking, anyway.
The Olympic swimmer -- who is not Michael Phelps and is not going to be racing a great white shark on Discovery -- is dutifully promoting that other channel’s week-long shark-themed programming. In fact, that’s all the silver-haired athlete-turned-Dancing With the Stars competitor-turned-dad competitor is doing…
In an exclusive look at Nat Geo Wild’s new promo, Lochte begrudgingly embraces the “second best” stature that the channel has accepted for its own shark week, which it says is filled “with first-rate premieres.”
“Besides, No. 1 is a state of mind. Right, Ryan?” the narrator asks in the clip.
NatGeo
While Lochte is, sadly, not going to be facing off against any underwater predators in the imagined Lochte vs. Shark, SharkFest does promise to be a week full of thrills thanks...

Signature Entertainment re-release three of their Tesco-exclusive creature features in a special three pack which is now available at all good retailers. We’ve previously reviewed two of the three so I thought I’d repost those together here just in case you’re wondering whether this new collection is worth picking up (Hint: If you love cheesy monster movies and crazy killer-shark flicks it most definitely is!). So without further ado, here’s reviews of Snow Beast and Swamp Shark:
Snow Beast (2011)
Stars: John Schneider, Jason London, Danielle Chuchran, Paul D. Hunt, Kari Hawker | Written by Brittany Wiscombe | Directed by Brian Brough
Snow Beast, shot in 2011, and not to be confused with the 1977 TV movieSnowbeast which starred Bo Svenson and Yvette Mimieux, and is set in the same locale (a snowy hillside) and featuring almost exactly the same plot,...

We admit it. We're not always right. In fact, like everyone else sometimes we miss the mark by a mile. Still, one man's trash is another's treasure, and in that spirit we'd like to take this time to poke a little fun at ourselves and look back at some of the reviews we get no end of shit for.
Now, be it known... most of us here at Dread Central will stick to our guns and say fuck it, we liked what we liked! Popular opinion be damned! However, there are a few listed here that we wish we could take back or just completely rewrite. Were we caught up in the moment? Were we on some mind-altering substance? Drunk maybe? Or did we just plain like a stinker? You decide as we take a look back at some of our worst moments.

You read that right, Lou Diamond Phillips is helming the television monster mashup Arachaconda. The film was written and is produced by Stephen Niver. Niver is surely familiar to genre fans for his stellar rap sheet that includes: Shark Swarm, Depth Charge, Sharktopus, Blood Clot, Bitch, Down N’ Dirty, Pimpin’ Pee-wee, Maneater Mountain, Sea Scorpions, and the currently-in-development Grizzligator.
Arachnaconda stars Maria (Total Recall) Conchita Alonso, Brett (The Crazies) Wagner, and Ldp himself. Like Sharktopus, Arachnaconda is being shot for tequila and nickels in Mexico.

If you liked Sharktopus, Dinoshark and Shark Swarm, you’ll be excited to hear that the co-producers of those movies have formed a new production company. Stephen Niver and Robert James Roessel have formed Monster Machine and have already lined up a new slate of films, including Arachnaconda, Grizzligator, Sea Scorpions and Maneater Mountain.
Writers Matthew Chernov and David Rosiak have been hired to work on the scripts for these films and they are expected to be released on video, cable and VOD. Each film will have a budget of between $1-3 million and Arachnaconda is the first project moving forward. The film will be directed by and star Lou Diamond Phillips. Expect more information on these projects in the coming months.

When Sharktopus came out, a local radio station out here in L.A. ran an on-air skit about a bunch of guys making tacky monster movies featuring animal hybrids proving just how ridiculous you can get with these movies.
Monster Machine is making that skit a reality.
The co-producers of Sharktopus, Dinoshark and Shark Swarm - Stephen Niver and Robert James Roessel - have founded Monster Machine and this production outfit will roll out a slate of creature features like Arachnaconda, Grizzligator, Sea Scorpions and Maneater Mountain.

Snow Beast, shot in 2011, and not to be confused with the 1977 TV movie Snowbeast which starred Bo Svenson and Yvette Mimieux, and is set in the same locale (a snowy hillside) and featuring almost exactly the same plot, stars Smallville‘s John Schneider as wildlife researcher Jim who, along with his team head up to the mountains every year to study the Canadian Lynx. Only this year things are a little different – for one Jim has to take his rebelling 16 year-old daughter, Emmy (Chuchran), with him and two, all the lynx are missing. As Jim and his team, along with a local forest ranger played by a sweaty-looking Jason London, try to find out why, something stalks them, a predator, a hunter, a Snowbeast! (and yes I am...

In the race to come up with the most outlandish maneating sea animal flick, it appears b-movie legend Fred Olen Ray is out to give Sharktopus a run for its money. As you'll see in this "Shark Week" parody teaser trailer for his latest creature feature Super Shark Attack, this gigantic shark not only rules the ocean as the ultimate predator and can "Air Jaws" with the best of them, you won't even be able to escape on shore now because this sucker can walk on dry land.
John Schneider may have survived Shark Swarm, but will he be "duke" enough to brave the "hazzard" of a walking land shark? Will Jimmie "Jj" Walker have enough "Dy-no-mite!" to defeat a super shark? Jerry Lacy ("Dark Shadows"), Tim Abell ("Soldiers of Fortune, Inc"), Sarah Lieving (Beast of Bray Road), and a bevy of bikini babes are amongst the tasty morsels that...

Filmmaker, Editor, and Dread Central staffer Andrew Kasch just hit Fango with the news that his short film, Thirsty will be making it's debut at the 13th Annual Rhode Island International Film Festival this Friday, August 7th.
Thirsty is a 15-minute horror/comedy directed by Kasch from a screenplay by David Rosiak (Shark Swarm, Ring Of Death), based on a story by cult scribe Joe Knetter (Zombie Bukkake). Joe Lynch (director of Wrong Turn 2), Tiffany Shepis (Night Of The Demons), and Michael Bailey Smith (The Hills Have Eyes) star.
Thirsty "chronicles a slacker on his cross-country drive through a lonely desert highway. As a massive heat wave rolls in, only one thing can quench his monstrous thirst: a delicious frozen beverage. But first he must dodge a series of bizarre obstacles and ultimately survive the night."
Quench your thirst at the film's official website.

There’s no end of blogging about wrong-headed Oscar wins. The litany of complaints about “Shakespeare in Love” winning over “Saving Private Ryan,” or “Forrest Gump” over “Pulp Fiction,” or “The Greatest Show on Earth” over any of the other nominees that year, not to mention how Gwyneth Paltrow won over Cate Blanchett for “Shakespeare,” or Costner over Scorsese for “Dances with Wolves.”
Sometimes, though, the win is totally justified; it’s the body of work after the win that drags the winner down, and makes you wonder if maybe the Oscar win wasn’t just some sort of one-trick point, a gold-plated piece of lightning in a bottle. That’s why there’s no quibbling in this post about the quality of the performances, but rather about everything that came afterwards.
With the 2009 nominations coming out tomorrow, and with plenty of nitpicking sure to abound, I’m presenting seven...

John Schneider, Roma Downey and Brooke Nevin have been tapped to star in "Wedding Dance," a Hallmark Channel original movie airing next year.
The telefilm, which goes into production this month in Vancouver, centers on a young bride-to-be (Nevin) who is shocked when the father (Schneider) she never knew shows up alive and holding the deed to her family's dance studio, which she is hoping to sell in order to pursue her dream of becoming a therapist. She turns to her attorney (Downey) for help.
This marks the third Hallmark Channel movie for Schneider, following 2007's "You've Got a Friend" and May's "Shark Swarm." It's the first for Nevin ("The 4400") and Downey, though the latter is a familiar face to viewers of Hallmark Channel, which airs reruns of her series "Touched by an Angel."
"Wedding Dance" will be directed by Mark Jean ("7th Heaven") from a story by Jean Abounader...
