Director Chris McKay continues to develop a live-action "Jonny Quest" feature film, based on the 1964 ABC primetime Hanna-Barbera animated series, noted as the first action adventure TV cartoon depicting 'bad guys' getting killed:
The original series is set in the Florida Keys, with main characters including 'Jonny Quest', a young boy who lost his mother at an early age. He is intelligent, brave, adventurous and generally athletic with a proficiency in judo, scuba diving and the handling of firearms.
'Dr. Benton C. Quest' is Jonny's father and a scientific genius who works for the U.S. Government. He is considered to be one of the three top scientists in the world . Raising Jonny as a single father, he is willing and able to take violent decisive action when necessary for survival or defense.
'Race Bannon' is a special agent, bodyguard and pilot from 'Intelligence One'. He is proficient in mixed martial arts and weaponry.

In the realm of science fiction and fantasy, creators can break the established order, dissolve conceptions of social identity, and give voices to the silenced. Robert Rodriguez seems no longer attached to helm that live action PG-13 Jonny Quest adaptation that he co-wrote with Terry Rossio (the Pirates Of The Caribbean series) and Dan Mazeau (Wrath Of The Titans). According to Forbes, Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), and Joe Cornish (Attack The Block) are all in the mix as potential replacements.
It’s unclear why Rodriguez is out as director, but he does like to shoot his films with a $300 budget over the course of 17 hours, so they sometimes come out feeling like straight-to-video knockoffs from the ’80s. And since Forbes’ Mark Hughes—who somehow got his hands on the script—is raving about what a strong adaptation this is and how it’s “a potential tentpole picture capable of spinning off a whole expanded universe of franchises,” you have to wonder if maybe Warner Bros. didn’t want ...

The line between film direction and music video direction has always been a thin one, with numerous directors over the years making the jump from music videos to film, and continuing in the former even after finding success in the latter, with Paul Thomas Anderson standing as one of the more recent examples, having directed two music videos for Joanna Newsom. Others, such as Steve McQueen, have done music videos for the first time after finding success in features.
Now the latter group has gotten a new addition in the form of Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who shot to fame with El Mariachi before going on to direct films such as Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn, took on directing duties for the new song from pop singer Demi Lovato, reuniting with his Machete performers Michelle Rodriguez and Jeff Fahey in the process. The music video can be seen below.

With "Hitman: Agent 47" set to hit cinemas this week, there's been a bunch of press regarding the film and interviews with the film's producer Adrian Askarieh. Askarieh is a man in demand these days and one of his upcoming projects is that of the live-action film adaptation of the "Jonny Quest" franchise which Robert Rodriguez recently became attached to write and direct.
Speaking about 'Quest' this week with Collider, Askarieh confirmed that Rodriguez recently turned in the script he co-wrote with Terry Rossio which they crafted out of an earlier draft by Dan Mazeau. The script reportedly isn't ready for the studio yet but will hopefully be handed in shortly after the Labor Day holiday.
In terms of the content, Askarieh says they're using the original 1960s Jonny Quest prime time animated show as their source of inspiration, rather than the more recent "The New Adventures of Jonny Quest". As a result,...

Director Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids") continues to develop a live-action "Jonny Quest" feature film for Warners, based on the 1964 ABC primetime Hanna-Barbera animated series, noted as the first action adventure cartoon depicting people ('bad guys') getting killed:
"Its an 'Indiana Jones'/'James Bond' action-adventure strip with a kid in it," said Rodriguez about the source material.
"So, that’s what it’s going to be with the movie. I made Spy Kids movies, but those are more kids being spies and their family. This is more of a legitimate action-adventure film that has a kid in it."

Though unenthusiastic in his schooling, he is intelligent, brave, adventurous, and generally athletic with a proficiency in judo, scuba diving, and the handling of firearms. Robert Rodriguez is one busy guy – the director recently launched the El Rey television network and is currently working on the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, but he’s simultaneously guiding multiple projects to the big screen, including an adaptation of beloved animated series Jonny Quest.
At the TCAs to discuss From Dusk Till Dawn, Rodriguez fielded a question about why he decided to tackle Jonny Quest:
“I thought it’d be really cool to do a legitimate action/adventure film that just happens to have a kid in it. Not a kids film; the Spy Kids were more like kids films, this would be like a real action-adventure film because that’s what the original series was like. It was a hard hitting, kickass action-adventure series. That’s what enticed me to go do it. My own series had already played out. That was...

Collider spoke with the "Sin City" helmer and managed to ask him about the live-action film based on the classic "Jonny Quest" cartoon that he has in the works. Special effects legend Rick Baker formally announced his retirement this week. Baker cited a “cheap and fast” philosophy in the movie industry that was at odds with his desire to ensure things got done right as the catalyst for his retirement. Baker’s work stretches across several prominent films, from An American Werewolf in London to Videodrome to The Rocketeer to Ed Wood to Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes and Tropic Thunder. Baker also worked on the Men in Black films and Michael Jackson’s famous “Thriller” music video. The 2014 feature Maleficent will now stand as his last work.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Sin City and Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez has signed up to co-write and direct a live-action take on Jonny Quest. Although the original cartoon series only ran for a single season in 1964, it has firmly embedded itself in popular culture with its cast of varied adventurers creating archetypes that still exist (and are still ruthlessly parodied) to this day. Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids) has always found a fascinating balance in directing both B-level action/horror films and hyper-creative family vehicles. According to "The Hollywood Reporter," the multi-talented director will next hop aboard a family-friendly project for Warner Bros., a live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest. Along with directing the film, Rodriguez will rewrite the Dan Mazeau-penned script (a 2008 Black List item) with family adventure staple Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean). The film will be Rodriguez's first family venture since 2011's Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. "We’ve gotta get out of here and fast." It looks like we finally have some forward movement on the Jonny Quest live-action movie, which has been in development for years and years. We posted extensively back in 2007-2011 about a Jonny Quest movie, based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, with rumors of Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson teaming up for the lead roles, but nothing ever came together. Deadline is now reporting that Warner Bros has hired Robert Rodriguez to direct the movie, and he'll also rewrite the script with Terry Rossio (of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger), that was originally written by Dan Mazeau. No word if Dwayne Johnson is back (he seems like the better fit, in all honesty) but at least they have a director. The show, which originally debuted in the 1960s and was reinvented in the 1980s and 1990s. The franchise revolves around...

Robert Rodriguez may be best known for his violent action/crime flicks like Sin City and Desperado, but he's also directed some successful children's adventure movies such as Spy Kids and Sharkboy and Lavagirl, making him a good fit for Warner Bros.' live-action adaptation of '60s Hanna-Barbera animated series, Jonny Quest. According to THR, he'll direct and co-write with Terry Rossio (The Lone Ranger, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The show focused on the globe-trotting adventures of young Jonny Quest and his father. They were accompanied by Jonny's dog Bandit, a Kolkatan orphan named Hadji, and government agent/bodyguard Race Bannon. It originally ran for only one season, but has since spawned '90s cartoon revivals and comic books. Classic animated series Jonny Quest is finally making the jump to the big screen in a new Robert Rodriguez film.
The Spy Kids filmmaker is teaming up with Warner Bros and Terry Rossio (The Lone Ranger) to adapt a pre-existing screenplay penned by Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans).
It is not clear yet what this new storyline for kid adventurer Jonny Quest's big screen adventure will be, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A prior film adaptation starring Zac Efron as Quest and Dwayne Johnson as bodyguard Race Bannon was announced in 2009, only for development to stall.

A project that has been knocking around Warner Bros. for years, the live action adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera adventure cartoon "Jonny Quest" now has a new lease of life, courtesy of a director who certainly knows how to do family entertainment with panache. Robert Rodriguez will co-write and direct the movie, his first major studio project in quite some time as he's mostly spent the last several years in the independent world, making the likes of "Spy Kids," "Machete" and "Sin City." But the former franchise has certainly proven that he makes kids fare on a dime, which is likely an asset at the always budget conscious studio level. He'll be teaming with Terry Rossio (the last few "Pirates Of The Caribbean" films, "The Lone Ranger") on the script, and they'll be refashioning an initial draft by Dan Mazeau. So hooray, another property beloved by aging fanboys goosed up for a new generation!

Robert Rodriguez ("Sin City," "Spy Kids") is set to direct the live-action film adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera television cartoon "Jonny Quest".
The original series told the thrilling stories of a young boy who accompanied his scientist father on extraordinary escapades investigating scientific mysteries around the world.
Joining him was his adopted brother from Calcutta, his pet bulldog pup, and the government agent assigned to protect them. The original one-season series was revived in the 80's and 90's on the Cartoon Network.
Rodriguez and "The Mask of Zorro" scribe Terry Rossio will pen the script, re-writing an earlier draft by Dan Mazeau. Dan Lin and Adrian Askarieh are producing.
The project has been in development for two decades and seemed to gather steam a few years back when "Get Smart" helmer Peter Segal was to direct whilst Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson were being lined up to star. That version didn't happen.

The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman caught Everyone off guard. The way I found out about it was not on twitter, but when the Variety newsletter came into my inbox with the news. I thought it was one of their Hollywood & Swine humor pieces. I couldn’t believe it. Then the Deadline newsletter came in next and I knew it was no joke. Then my phone started blowing up and it set in… Warners got their man. Personally, I think it is an Awesome choice. I dig Affleck as an actor and especially as a filmmaker. I’m excited to see what he brings to the table.
The conversation with my friends and peers have been nonstop since the news broke. I had one cool conversation with my Kings Of Con partner Daniel Alter and told him he should articulate his thoughts into an article. Lo and behold here it is below so enjoy.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Tom Cruise is adding yet another sci-fi thriller to his resume with Warner Bros.' big screen adaptation of the Japanese novel Yukikaze. The actor recently starred in Universal's Oblivion, and will be seen in WB's Edge Of Tomorrow next year. According to Variety, screenwriter Dan Mazeau (who previously worked on Wrath Of The Titans, as well as unproduced screenplays for The Flash and Jonny Quest for the studio) has been hired to adapt Yukikaze. The story "originates with a hyper-dimensional passageway appearing over Antarctica, allowing fighters from an alien force to attempt a terrestrial invasion — resulting in a united humanity fending off the attack." The novel has since spawned multiple anime and manga series. Viz Media's Jason Hoffs and 3 Arts' Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally are on board as producers, with Jon Berg overseeing the project. Are you looking forward to the...

Dan Mazeau, the screenwriter of film adaptations of Bleech, The Flash and Johnny Quest recently recently did an interview with IFC in which he gave a little update on each of these projects. He starts off with his current project Bleech,
I love ‘Bleach!’ ‘Bleach’ is awesome. It’s been a long process getting to write the script. Getting the rights from the Japanese company that owned them was a complicated process. But early on we set down with Tite Kubo the creator and the publisher of the series, and we had a long meeting, making sure we’re respectful to the property. Nobody wants to, well… Let’s just say that if you enjoyed [the live-action] ‘Dragonball Z’ movie, that’s great, but I thought it was a noble effort that ultimately didn’t succeed. That’s what we’re trying to avoid. We want to make sure this movie lives...

With today's release of Wrath Of The Titans, we will get to see if screenwriter Dan Mazeau is the man for Bleach, The Flash, and Jonny Quest. Yes, he's taking on all of those adaptations. In an interview with IFC (via GeekTyrant), Mazeau gave updates on each of the projects. Starting with The Flash, .Warner Brothers is in the process of figuring out what their method is for releasing their superhero movies. They had .Green Lantern. come out, and I think .Flash. is high on the list of what...

After Warner Brothers was forced to halt production on Jaume Collet-Serra’s Akria due to script concerns, the movie studio was quietly working on picking up another anime they could be adapting. Variety has word that Warner Brothers is working on a live-action movie adaptation of Bleach. Peter Segal (Anger Management, 50 First Dates, Get Smart) and writer Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans, The Flash, Jonny Quest) have come on-board to develop at the studio, and Segal “will produce with an eye toward possibly directing.”
The movie follows a teenager named Ichigo who possessed the power to see ghosts and spirits after his family is viciously killed by a dark force called Hollows. Soon after he asbosrbs the powers of Hollows, Ichigo dedicates his life to protecting the innocent from Hollows. Bleach is a very successful Japanese manga that has more than 75 million copies in ciculation in Japan alone. The...

While we wait for Akira, how about a little Bleach? Warner Bros, who's developing the live-action Akira, is apparently now moving forward on developing a live-action adaptation of the manga/anime Bleach. We first heard about this project existing a few years ago, but Variety is now saying that Peter Segal (Anger Management, 50 First Dates, Get Smart) and writer Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans, The Flash, Jonny Quest) have come on-board to develop at the studio, and Segal "will produce with an eye toward possibly directing." Interesting update on another live-action anime project that's going to get a lot of fan resistance. Bleach, with more than 75 million copies in circulation in Japan alone, follows Ichigo, a teenager with the ability to see ghosts. When his family is attacked by a Hollow, he absorbs the power to hunt Hollows and dedicates his life to protecting the innocent and helping tortured...

Even though we're still more than a full season away from the March 30, 2012 release of Wrath of the Titans (a.k.a. Clash of the Titans 2), Warner Bros. has hired two writers to start work on Clash of the Titans 3.
The two writers are David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) and Dan Mazeau (who penned the script for a proposed Jonny Quest movie.) Both have worked with the movie studio before on other projects as well as contributed to the screenplay for Wrath of the Titans.
Today's story breaks from The Hollywood Reporter, which goes on to mention that Clash of the Titans 3 will bring back Sam Worthington's heroic character Perseus. It may also return Perseus' sidekick that's introduced in Wrath, Agenor (played by Tobny Kebbell.) That part of the scoop is unconfirmed though, and could change as the story for Clash of the Titans 3 gets developed.

At first glance, it was surprising that Warner Bros. was even going ahead with a sequel to its 2010 action blockbuster Clash of the Titans. Louis Leterrier‘s Gods vs. warriors film was plagued by generally bad buzz and a hasty post-conversion that only deteriorated the experience. But with a worldwide box-office take of almost $500 million, a sequel was put into production rather quickly. Wrath of the Titans is indeed coming this March from Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman and now we have news on possible third film.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Dan Mazeau and David Johnson, co-writers on the upcoming 2012 film with Steven Knight, have been hired to write a treatment. No deals have been signed but the original producing team would be back, as would Liebesman. There is even word on a specific character we haven’t seen yet that could have a prominent word. The title "Alien Sleeper Cell" conjures up a very specific scenario. Aliens pass for humans and live among us until, triggered by a cataclysmic event, they rise up to take over the humans. Which, actually, sounds a lot like the ABC show V. That's probably a good thing because any image that title brings to mind is more evocative than the actual information that's out there for the new project Alien Sleeper Cell. Concerning "otherworldly beasties" the film is currently in development based on an idea by producer Felipe Linz. It'll be written by former editor Morgan Davis Foehl and produced by Adrian Askarieh and Bill Block, who produced District 9. Read more about the parties involved after the jump. Variety broke the story [1] about this project and focused on the fact that Block and Akrarieh seem to be developing this project outside the studio system. Money has been raised...

We can't remember the last time when alien visitors were so popular in Hollywood. It seems as if every day yields a new extraterrestrial type flick, and today is no different.
Though details are on the scant side right now, Variety reports that Adrian Askarieh has paired with District 9 producer Bill Block for his latest property, Alien Sleeper Cell, a story about otherworldly beasties that former TV and film editor-turned-scribe Morgan Davis Foehl will write.
Details of the project are being kept under wraps, but the idea was conceived by Felipe Linz, a former exec at David Friendly's shingle who has since gone off to produce his own pics.
Askarieh's credits include Fox actioner Hitman, and he's prepping Kane and Lynch at Lionsgate; both are based on Eidos games. Together with Daniel Alter, he's also set up an adaptation of Devil Due comic books Hack/Slash (lord knows...

Is Warner Brothers trying to pull a Fox on us? The latter studio has hired Darren Aronofsky to direct a sequel to the poorly reviewed X-Men Origins: Wolverine and now we have our first casting rumors on a Clash of the Titans sequel. The recent blockbuster fared similar to Gavin Hood’s Wolverine; big hype followed by bigger disappointment.
Production Weekly is reporting that the studio is looking at the Oscar award-winning Javier Bardem and soon-to-be Oscar award-winning James Franco to lead the sequel, now titled Wrath of the Titans. Like any unsubstantiated rumor, take it will a grain of salt. Bardem is looking at the character of Ares, the god of war, while Franco would play Agenor, son of Poseidon.
Director of Darkness Falls, The Killing Room, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles, Jonathan Liebesman, will direct the Clash of the Titans sequel.

Jonathan Liebesman (2006’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles) is set to direct Clash of the Titans 2, after French director Louis Leterrier decided not to return for the sequel.
Liebesman had been in negotiations to direct a sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans this whole summer. According to Heat Vision, money was the main factor for delaying the deal.
The first movie, a remake of the 1981 original, became a worldwide hit for Warners, grossing more than $491 million, inspite of many negative reviews, from both critics and the general public.
Now, this project could be a real challenge for Liebesman to put things at the right place.
So, studio’s plan now is to shoot the film in 3D, instead of converting to 3-D like they did with the first movie.

Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman has signed a deal to direct Clash of the Titans 2 for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. THR’s Heat Vision reports that Liebesman will shoot the sequel in 3D instead of having it added during post-production ala the original.
Despite the critical mauling Clash of the Titans received, the film still earned $491.9m worldwide, hence Warner Bros. moving forward on a sequel – hiring Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern), Dan Mazeau (The Flash, Jonny Quest) and David Leslie Johnson (Red Riding Hood) to pen a treatment, with Mazeau and Johnson now writing the script.
Heat Vision also report that Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton are expected to return for the sequel.

"Clash of the Titans," the remake of the 1981 original, was one of the biggest moneymakers this year, so now, we're talking sequels. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Liebesman has signed a deal to direct the sequel for Warner Bros. and Legendary.
Louis Leterrier directed the much-maligned remake starring Sam Worthington, and I heard, Liebesman and company will try to improve on the second film. First, this one will Not be converted to 3-D, but instead, will be shot in three dimension. That's good!
Second, smart scriptwriters are supposed to be attached to the sequel such as Greg Berlanti (the upcoming "Green Lantern"), Dan Mazeau (he worked for WB on "The Flash" and "Jonny Quest"), and David Leslie Johnson (the upcoming thriller "Red Riding Hood"). Mazeau and Johnson are working on the script right now.

Greg Berlanti ( Green Lantern ), Dan Mazeau ( The Flash , Jonny Quest ) and David Leslie Johnson, writer of next year's Red Riding Hood worked together on the treatment, with Mazeau and Johnson now writing the script. After rumors floating around for months, it has been declared in a written deal that Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Darkness Falls) will be directing the sequel according to Heat Vision.
For the past three months, there have been negative stigmas in response to the first film and funding problems to prevent the signing from occurring. The remake of the 1981 original earned Warner Bros. more than $491 million across the globe. Against all odds, the studios are intending to correct the misdeeds of creating 3D postproduction by shooting in 3D beforehand. Sounds like a marvelous idea!
Stars from the first film, Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton, are believed to come back to the big screen for this sequel. Involved in this project are Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern writer), Dan Mazeau (The Flash, Jonny Quest) and David Johnson (Red Riding Hood writer). Mazeau and Johnson will be penning the script for this installment.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures is actually moving forward with a sequel to Clash of the Titans. Why? Because that's how hollywood rolls. Who cares that the first movie sucked, it made a lot of money! So of course they will make a potentially crappy sequel in hopes that it will rake in some more cash.
The studio has hired director Jonathan Liebsman to develop the film. Liebsman's work include films such as the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles, The Killing Room, and Darkness Falls. The guy is a decent director and I've enjoyed his work. Battle: Los Angeles looks like it's going to be awesome, but I just don't have a lot of faith that the sequel will be any better than the first film.
Now Warner Bros. wants to try and do a better job this time around. They plan on shooting the film in 3d instead of converting it.

Louis Leterrier isn't the only creator of Clash of the Titans who will be sitting out the sequel. Mazeau and Johnson, unlike Beacham and Hay, have no history writing together; Mazeau worked on The Flash and Jonny Quest scripts for the studio, and Johnson wrote both last year's bizarre horror film The Orphan and the upcoming The Girl with the Red Riding Hood, which will star Amanda Seyfried.
