In my opinion, Modern Family was always good at depicting those screwball comedy moments where we see a lot of misunderstanding that is obvious to us, the audience, but the characters are oblivious to it or misunderstood.
We see that here with Jay and his gardener/Gloria and her (beautiful) sister's beau and finally in a hilarious last step her sister and the gardener.
Is it new? Not really, but it's funny. It's playing to MF's strengths and I hope the cast will rather focus on trying to recycle and repack this old formula in its final season than to try for something new. It isn't as fresh as it used to be, but it entertains and makes us laugh and I think for the show's dignity and quality, it is the best option for the final season.
