Amazing song and excellent production values

Amazing rock/pop 1980's ballad by The Motels, "Only the Lonely" got a sensual music video that pays tribute to classic Hollywood, specially film noir. In it, lead singer Martha Davis appears as a lonely woman strolling around a crowded club where everyone seems to slightly sneer or laugh at her since she's the only lonely figure in the crowd, and even though some stranger winks at her or another kisses her for a while, she's still not complete and feeling completely outcast from the rest. Yet she moves ahead with some confidence all the way to have some chat with the senior bartender.

Elegant, chic, full of rhythm and style, the video is impecable and along with one of the group's greatest hits the full effect on audiences is intense and full of magic. Considering the times when there were still artists making some cheap videos here and there, this one is outstanding thanks to its incredible production values that make everything turn into an effective short film coming from video clip veteran and future filmmaker Russell Mulcahy. 8/10.
