- Lucifer - the real one this time - helps Chloe investigate a murder committed on the set of a TV show inspired by his own life.
- Amenadiel tells Lucifer what Michael has been up to on Earth in Lucifer's absence. Lucifer travels to Earth to set his brother's wrongs right, but discovers it isn't as easy as he expected. Meanwhile, Lucifer and Chloe investigate a murder on the set of a suspiciously familiar show.—Gislef
- Amenadiel tells Lucifer how Michael impersonated him, in a room where Kenneth is being tormented for his guilt. Lucifer doesn't believe Amenadiel, and Amenadiel says that it's about Charlie. His brother points out that Michael is all bark and no bite, but Amenadiel warns that Michael has seated himself at God's right hand. Michael is the only angel that has a line to God, and is stronger than Lucifer thinks. He goes to Earth to deal with Michael, while Amenadiel watches over Hell. Amenadiel is less than thrilled, and two murder clowns come out for Kenneth and wonder if they should get back to work. The angel nods to them to go ahead.
In LA, Lucifer arrives at the station, spots Chloe, and goes over to her. She figures that he's Michael and tells him to go. Lucifer demonstrates his desire-manifesting problem on a passing officer to prove he is who he claims, and Chloe is convinced. Chloe hugs Lucifer, and they go into the interrogation room. Lucifer warns that he can't stay for long, but he needed to make sure she was okay. He warns her that what Michael said is a lie, and Chloe says that Michael told her that she is a gift from God. Lucifer stares at her in shock, and finally admits that God made Chloe as a gift to him and he knew from Charlotte . Charlotte did it to separate them, but Lucifer tells Chloe that it doesn't matter. However, she says that it matters to her.
Dan comes in and says that they have a body at WB Studios. Chloe angrily storms out, glad for the interruption, and Dan gives Lucifer a bracelet like the one Michael complimented him on. Lucifer gives it back in disgust and goes after Chloe, and says that he's the only reason he's there. Chloe points out that apparently Lucifer is the only reason she's there, and she's going to do the job she chose.
Chloe goes to the WB backlot where Ella is with the EMTs. The dead man is Matt Owens, who was stabbed to death. Owens was a show runner in charge of a TV show, 'Lieutenant Diablo. Ella notices that Chloe is upset, and Chloe says that she and Lucifer had a difficult conversation. Ella tells Chloe that she's okay if all she told Lucifer was to go to Hell, just as Lucifer pulls up. Lucifer tells Chloe that he's not going anywhere until he knows she's okay, and Chloe tells him that she needs a little time to absorb what she's learned.
Lucifer recognizes Owens and goes over to the body. He explains that he did Owens a favor a few years ago to get his career started. Lucifer hasn't seen Owen recently, and Chloe points out a sign for the show... which is about the Devil solving crimes.
The crew film a scene about Lieutenant ¡Diablo! bringing in a kidnapper thanks to his unorthodox methods. Lucifer and Chloe look on, and Chloe is shocked that it's the show Lucifer inspired Owens to write. Thrilled, Lucifer says that it's amazing how Owen brought his exploits to life. On the show, Diablo gets an award from the city council and the fake TV officers all applaud. Diablo calls up his partner, "Dancer", who is an ex-stripper and sexy blonde. Lucifer hastily assures Chloe that Owens took some creative liberties. Later at the crafts table, Chloe questions the two lead actors about how they're still filming when Owens just died. They say that they're that big a hit, and the actress playing Dancer says that Owens was a megalomaniac. Owens chose everything for the actress, and Chloe wonders if that bothers her that she has no control in what her character says or does. Dancer is thrilled that she's a role model to strippers.
The main actor says that he's thrilled to be there, and they should figure out what the killer's "yearning" was. The actress suggests that Keri Belwood, Owens' number two, killed him and everyone knew she did the work on the scripts and Owens took the credit. Chloe isn't so sure, and the two actors say that Diablo comes up with the wild theories and Dancer shoots them down until she's proven wrong.
Lucifer goes to see Linda and tells her what happened to Amenadiel. She's not thrilled about how the father of her child is stuck in Hell, and Lucifer says that he'll put what Michael did right and get Amenadiel back. Lucifer figures that Michael has hidden somewhere, and asks if Michael coaxed any fears out of Linda. Linda hastily says that he didn't, and says that since Lucifer came unexpectedly back, he has to expect some anger and frustration. Lucifer plants out that God and Michael set the emotional "bomb", and Linda suggests that he try empathizing and listening to what his friends are saying. He abruptly leaves, telling Linda that he has to find out what other chaos Michael caused.
Chloe interviews Belwood, who says that she's familiar with police scripts and the math adds up to make her a suspect. Belwood says that Owens was lazy and a control freak, and she sent him the scripts and he'd change them. Owens undid all of their work, and Chloe empathizes. Belwood has an alibi for the time of Owens' death, and says that while show runners have all the power they also get all of the blame. The show was doing well so everyone at the studio took an interest, and then Owens would get the blame if the ratings dipped. Belwood didn't want the stress, and mentions that Owens had a drug problem. One night she hand-delivered a script to him at a seedy motel, per his request.
At the penthouse, Lucifer looks at his ruined piano and assumes Michael destroyed it. Maze comes in and draws her knives, assuming Lucifer is Michael. She attacks Lucifer and he finally slams her down on the bed and says who he really is. Maze is still angry Lucifer didn't take her to Hell with him, and points out that she doesn't have wings to go with him. When Lucifer points out that she could have Amenadiel fly her to Hell, Maze storms off and tells Lucifer to stab Michael himself.
Later, Lucifer joins Chloe at the motel. He tells Chloe that she'll tell him what to do, but Chloe focuses on the case and wonders why Owens didn't stay at home if he had a drug problem. They break into Owens' room and find it tidy. The actors playing Diablo and Dancer come in, and Chloe and Dancer aim their guns at each other and identify themselves as LAPD. Chloe points out that Dancer's gun is a prop, and Dancer apologizes and lowers her prop gun. The actors say that they're trying to solve the case just like on their show. Diablo found a matchbook for the motel on Owens' body, and Lucifer and Diablo start looking around. Dancer tells Chloe that she came there to keep Diablo safe, and admits that they're close. She also wants to keep Diablo alive so the show stays on the air.
Lucifer says that Owens was living in the motel room when he first met him. Chloe figures that Owens went there to reconnect with a time when he felt in control of his fate. She tells the actors out and Lucifer to go with them, because she's feeling overwhelmed by him.
Chloe meets Ella at the station lab. Ella is going through Owens' trash from the motel, and Chloe asks her if she believes in predestination. Ella tells Chloe that she changed her old bad pattern, just as someone sends her a dick pic. Chloe recognizes a hot cinnamon vape cartridge item among Owens' belongings and sniffs it. Lucifer is at Chloe's desk pouring himself a drink from his flask into Dan's cup and listening in on Chloe's conversation. Dan comes over and asks if Lucifer is doing okay, and says that he figures Lucifer is feeling vulnerable. He offers to help Lucifer with positive visualization, and Lucifer talks about he feels that his life is meaningless and Dan is the perfect person to ask about such feelings.
Coming out, Chloe says that they have a new suspect in Owens' murder. Diablo had a similar vape, and the item was in Owens' motel room trash. They go back to the backlot and find a PA knocking on Diablos trailer but getting no response. Lucifer breaks into the trailer and they find Diablo dead on his couch, stabbed to death
The police secure the crime scene, and Lucifer wonders why no one noticed Diablo was missing. Chloe complains that Lucifer is making it all about himself, then hopes that Diablo was stabbed with the same knife the killer used on Owens. Ella finds the murder weapon, which is a prop from the show. It's the only blade on the show that can kill the Devil, and she jokingly stabs Lucifer with it but the prop blade just bends. Ella explains that it's just a rubber knife, but the real one is sharp and if they find it, they find the murderer.
Later, Maze and Linda watch video of the show set at Diablos bar. Maze is impressed by the demon bouncer, Blaze. She laments how all the people in her life come and go, and Linda assures Maze that she's not going anywhere. Maze doesn't believe her, figuring Linda will drop dead in five years, and Linda points out that even if she dies she'll be down in Hell. Linda figures Maze is struggling with the fear of abandonment, and it comes from someone in her youth letting her down. On the show, the TV psychologist, Dr. Belinda, arrives and kisses Blaze.
Lucifer is going over the script for the next episode of the series, while Dancer does a zero-g strip tease. Chloe points out that Lucifer didn't tell her about her origins, and Lucifer asks what he should do to fix things with her. Before Chloe can say anything, Dan comes over and says that a PA at Diablos trailer was called away right before he was murdered. A second AD called her away, and he got the message from the first AD who was passing on a message the AD gave him. Dan confirms that Belwood was smart enough to launder the message through multiple people.
Chloe and Lucifer go to see Belwood, and she says that she's been on note calls all day and didn't send any messages. She says that she wouldn't kill the star of what is now her show, and Lucifer pokes around in a cabinet and finds the bloody murder weapon. Belwood insists that it isn't hers, but Chloe arrests her anyway.
Later at the station, Dan finally approaches Lucifer and says that he can feel his negative vibration. Lucifer tells Dan that he's giving Chloe space, and Dan should give Lucifer the same. Dan admits that all of the New Age "superstitions" he's preaching might be bullshit, but he doesn't care. Losing Charlotte made him realize he doesn't have control over his life. The rituals keep him positive, and they all need whoever they can get. Lucifer, touched, agrees to take the bracelet so he can be reharmonized.
Dan finally hands over the bracelet and looks at the Diablos personal scripts that Lucifer is perusing. The next script is about ¡Diablo! in space, and Lucifer and Dan both get an idea.
Chloe visits Dancer's on-set trailer and tells her that they arrest Belwood for the murders. Dancer thanks Chloe and says that she's not surprised, and she always griped about Owens. Chloe says that she wants more motive, and Dancer points out that Owens was insightful. The actress talks about how she understands being stuck in a situation she has no control over, and she and ¡Diablo! were partners.
Lucifer and Dan go to a conference room and read lines from the space script. Ella comes in and complains they're acting out ¡Diablo! episodes without her. The new notes by ¡Diablo! are about freedom and yearning, and Lucifer realizes that ¡Diablo! was investing the case. ¡Diablo! has a note that the number two murdered Owens, and Lucifer figures that means ¡Diablo! realized Belwood was the killer and solved the case. Ella says that based on the stab wounds, the victims were killed by someone right-handed and Belwood has repetitive stress injuries in her right wrist. Dan figures ¡Diablo! meant someone else was the number two.
Dancer shows Chloe ¡Diablo! TV show club, Hades. The actress' character was a stripper there before she joined the police force to solve her father's murder. Dancer pours herself a real drink from a hidden bottle and gives one to Chloe. Chloe asks what the secret is to Dancer only servicing another character. Dancer says that it's hell and now she can expand into better roles. Chloe points out that earlier Dancer said she was grateful for her role on the show, and Dancer tells Chloe tries to explain. The detective notes that Dance's earlier impression of Belwood was good and it would be hard to tell them apart over the phone.
Chloe draws her gun, and Dancer knocks it out of her hand with the bottle, breaks it, and comes at Chloe. The detective asks why Dancer killed ¡Diablo! if she wanted them to think he was the murderer, and Dancer says that ¡Diablo! figured out what she did. Dancer killed him to stop him from depriving her of her freedom, and Chloe uses a nearby stripper pole to spin on it and kick Dancer down. As Chloe handcuffs Dancer, Lucifer and the unis in come in and Lucifer says that ¡Diablo! was right. As the unis take Dancer away, Lucifer tells Chloe that he figured Chloe had it handled on her own.
Lucifer finally apologizes to Chloe and asks her what he should do. Chloe says that there's nothing for him to do, and she was wrong about thinking she had someone who could help her cope with feeling powerless.
Linda and Maze get drunk and Maze notes that she turned out fine growing up in Hell. Linda says that it's fine and asks Maze about her abandonment issues. The demon says that they're not issues, and talks about how Lucifer left her. Maze breaks into tears and talks about how Chloe left her, and wonders why Eve left her.
Lucifer comes in and pours himself a drink. Michael is waiting for him. The two brothers extend their wings and confront each other. Michael gloats about the mess he made of Lucifer's life, and Lucifer says that Michael's plans have always involved him pretending to be Lucifer. Undeterred, Michael asks how Lucifer got the idea to rebel. He says that he planted the idea but Lucifer chose to do it. Michael says that he isn't lying and once Lucifer realizes it. Once Lucifer does, he'll wonder what else he did that was Michael's idea.
Shocked, Lucifer asks why. Michael says that Lucifer always thought he was better than him but he's just Samiel. Lucifer tells him not to call him that, and Michael calls him "unworthy" like Lucifer knows he is. When Lucifer attacks Michael, Michael easily parries his blows. They fight, and Lucifer gets Michael in a chokehold and cuts his throat with a knife.
Chloe is at home pouring herself tea when Lucifer comes in, clearly beat up. He tells Chloe that Michael won't be impersonating him again, be he's discovered Michael has been manipulating him since the dawn of time. Chloe points out it must be terrible to learn one isn't controlling their own fate, and Lucifer yells at Chloe. She says that he deal with celestial craziness all the time and she's just a person, and found out that she was made to fell love for the Devil. Lucifer tells Chloe that he spent thousands of years imagining their reunion and getting her back, and he thought it would go differently. Chloe says that what she thought they had was real and walks away.
Maze goes to Linda's home. Linda isn't home and Lucifer is sitting in the shadows, saying that Linda was upset. Maze tells Lucifer that she's sorry for attacking him earlier, and she wasn't really upset with Lucifer. "Lucifer" talks about himself in the third person, and Maze realizes that it's Michael. He tells her that she should be upset with Lucifer. Maze puts her knife to his throat, and Michael says that Lucifer kept a secret from Chloe and is keeping one from Maze.
When Maze asks what the secret is, Michael says that he can't tell her because she won't believe him. Maze backs away and Michael says that he can tell her how to find out the secret for himself.
