At the McCall Ranch, Dan Mathews opens the trunk of the 1955 Buick Century Model 68 patrol unit, License #21749, to retrieve rifles for the upcoming shootout. This is probably an authentic California Highway Patrol vehicle on loan for the Series. At the lower left just above the rear bumper, there is a white colored set of numbers that appear to start with "A." This number is probably the CHP patrol unit inventory number. Additionally, strapped to the inner trunk lid is a large square shaped item. This is possibly a wrapped tarp or blanket for emergencies. At the lower left of the inner Quarter Panel is a Fire Extinguisher. There are also boxes in the trunk that may be Road Flares but they were unidentifiable.
Suspect Ted Kramer is driving a two tone 1955 Mercury Montclair 2 door Coupe. This is the First Generation of the Montclair. It had a 292 cu.in. V8 rated at 195hp. The gangsters later arrive at the McCall Ranch in a light colored 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air 4 door Sedan.
