The opening credits for Father Knows Best changed with this installment. The old opening was Jim and Margaret kissing by the staircase with Betty, Bud, and Kathy watching while standing on the staircase. The new opening became Jim and Margaret kissing in the kitchen with all three children looking over the half opened kitchen door while standing outside. Additionally, Scott Paper Company, the sponsor, included their name when introducing the name of the show, and the company showed several images of its products in the closing credits.
It is revealed that Kathy's middle name is Louise, but she has changed it to Joy on her own. Betty said she didn't like it so that is why she changed it, and Jim is annoyed since it was his mother's, grandmother's, and his great grandmother's name.
When he comes home to surprise everyone with the news of Kathy's poetry award, Jim enters the room reciting an excerpt from the last of the six cantos of "The Lay of the Last Minstrel," a long narrative poem written by Walter Scott.
Upon learning that Kathy has received honors for her poem, Jim proudly recites the first six lines of "Sonnet 18" by William Shakespeare with his secretary taking over to recite the next two lines. In all the poem is comprised of 14 lines and is one of William Shakespeare's best known sonnets out of the 154 that he wrote.
