Philip Abbott: Carl Bronson

Quotes

  • Michael Anthony : [Anthony has located Carl Bronson living in a flophouse. He finds him napping in the lobby, his face covered by a newspaper]  Are you Carl Bronson?

Carl Bronson : [Arousing and tossing the newspaper]  That's right.

Michael Anthony : [Looking around, as other boarders are present]  Is there someplace where we can talk?

[Spotting an empty room adjacent to the lobby]

Michael Anthony : In there will be all right.

Carl Bronson : [Anthony and Bronson go into the next room]  Who are you? How'd you find me?

Michael Anthony : Through your manager, Mr. Eddie Wilson. I have something for you, Mr. Bronson.

[Opens his briefcase, withdraws a check and hands it to Bronson]

Carl Bronson : [Scoffs]  What is this? A joke? Who'd give me this amount of money?

Michael Anthony : It's a cashier's check - a gift from an unknown benefactor, a man who insists on remaining anonymous.

Carl Bronson : Why should anybody wanna help me?

Michael Anthony : [Taking out a document from his briefcase]  Maybe you underestimate yourself, Mr. Bronson. There is one condition: You must not tell anyone the exact amount of this money, that is, except your wife.

    Carl Bronson : My wife.

Michael Anthony : Yes. If you violate that condition, the remainder of the money will be reclaimed. Now, if you will sign this, please.

    [Bronson signs the agreement]
