In an age where Star Wars and superheroes dominate the cultural conversation, there’s currently a genre that feels sneakily more omnipresent than any intellectual property. Though you likely have a coworker or neighbor that only knows Baby Yoda from the memes, there’s a big chance that same person has binged The Devil Next Door and is ready to share their opinions, or they can’t wait to start watching The Confession Killer. True crime has always been a popular genre for American audiences, but in the streaming age, it seems more lucrative and mainstream than ever.

Netflix will make amendments to its documentary series The Devil Next Door following criticism from Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who pointed to historically false maps of Poland featured in the series.
In a letter to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, published on the prime minister's Facebook page earlier this week, Morawiecki said The Devil Next Door shows a map that "falsely places several German Nazi concentration camps in modern-day Poland's borders."
Reacting to Morawiecki's criticism, Netflix said it will add explanations of the maps used in the series.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has sent a letter to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to ask the streamer to correct a “mistake” in its doc series The Devil Next Door.
The show, which premiered online last week, chronicles a Cleveland grandfather, John Demjanjuk, who is brought to trial in Israel, standing accused of being an infamous Nazi death camp guard.
In the letter, which was published on his official Facebook page, the Polish Pm expressed his dissatisfaction at a map used that depicts historical Nazi concentration camps inside modern-day Polish borders.
“Certain works available through your network are hugely inaccurate – and to be an extent obfuscating historical facts and whitewashing actual perpetrators of these crimes,” he wrote. “It has come to my attention that a recently released documentary series The Devil Next Door involves a map that falsely places several German Nazi concentration camps within modern-day Poland’s borders. Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has complained to Netflix about allegedly historically false maps of Poland in World War II in the streaming service's documentary series The Devil Next Door.
His main objection is that the series shows a map that "falsely places several German Nazi concentration camps in modern-day Poland's borders."
"There is no comment or any explanation whatsoever that these sites (on the map) were German-operated," Morawiecki said in a letter to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings published Monday on the prime minister's Facebook page.

The true story behind John Demjanjuk's haunting case might be one of the biggest true-crime mysteries ever. We don't know with certainty if he was simply a Ukrainian immigrant who built a modest life as an autoworker in Cleveland or if he was also, in fact, Ivan the Terrible, one of history's cruelest Nazi guards. Netflix's five-part limited series The Devil Next Door investigates the facts around Demjanjuk's 35-year legal saga, questioning whether he was wrongfully persecuted or actually being held accountable for war crimes. The truth remains unclear, but here are the facts that we do know.
Before the Trials
Demjanjuk was born in 1920 in a Ukrainian village ruled by the Soviets. He worked on a collective farm and joined the Red Army, eventually captured by the Germans in 1942. After World War II, various international refugee organizations hired him as a driver in Southern Germany. Demjanjuk then...
