A clip show done right
ThetaProtocol13 December 2021
A clip show that actually has a plot that makes sense writ it to be a clip show, whilst also not showing too many clips or relying on past clips to create the comedy. Well done Modern Family.

Sad story

The fact that I only laughed at the flashbacks is a great illustration of the downward spiral that this show went on.

Loved the flashbacks

Warning: Spoilers
This episode had flashbacks to earlier seasons and it made me sad that the show's ending. This episode was also funny and emotional. Ed O'Neill really did a great performance in this episode. I love that Haley and Dylan are now basically the new Phil and Claire. I'm happy Claire and Phil get Franks RV. Lily has shown so much growth throughout the show. Big twist in this episode when we find out Cam didn't get the Missouri Job but now He and Mitch have the opportunity to adopt a baby.

This episode was beautiful modern family.

Flashback

Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I actually enjoy flashback episodes if they are done well and there's still plot advancement. This episode does it well. In the final season of a long-running show, a flashback episode makes sense. I mean usually the whole season is about wrapping up loose ends and reminiscing. This episode also had plot advancement with Mitch and Cam and I really liked Lily in this episode. There family seemed in a good place. Ed O'Neil was fantastic in this episode as well; funny and touching. I love when Jay gets vulnerable, gets me every time, reminds me of my own Dad. Dylan and Haley have been portraying stressed new parents so well. Very relatable! So maybe not huge advancement, but there was movement. Either way, I liked this episode and thought it was well placed leading up to the finale.

Once again good episode. It's nice that they've managed to create ending season as good as first one.

Seriously?!!!

A flashback episode?!!! There are only a few episodes left and you can't even bother to write a full script for one of them.

Clip Show Episode! Seriously?

I can't believe that in the final season with only 5 episodes left the lazy writers decided to do a clip show.

I know the writing has been suffering for years but come on guys, for the final sesaon we need your A game. Not flash backs to when you could be bothered to write.

Hopefully they'll be no more flashbacks in the remaining four episodes.

The flashback episode
studioAT3 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Flashbacks have been threaded carefully into a few of these 'Farewell Series' episodes but 'Spuds' goes all out and pretty much becomes a flashback episode. Has 'Modern Family' earned the right to do this after 11 years? Probably. Are flashback episodes overly fun for a viewer? No.

I'm amazed that Haley and Dylan haven't been more central in S11, bringing up their twins, so it's nice to see them here, and also to acknowledge that actually the show in many ways has been about Cam/Mitch bringing up Lily.

It's not my favourite episode of the series, but it's ok.

There's no coming back now.
Fry-TheMovieReviewer20 February 2020
Modern Family has now been reduced to countless guest star appearances, redundant vacations, gay stereotypes continuously demonstrated by Cameron, and continuous flashback stories (this is the third or fourth this season) without calling it a clip show, which it is, peppered by a few banal dinner conversations.

It's official: They stopped trying.
Gernot S.20 February 2020
Just when you think atrocities like nationalism, ebola or clip shows are a thing of the past, they come back... (okay, it was not a FULL clip show, but still) And the rest was so bad and unfunny, it felt like an improv performance - a very bad one. What happened? Hard drugs? Did the producer sleep with all the writer's wives AND husbands?

This is so bad, it is fascinating. I just re-rated the whole show - something I didn't even do after the GoT finale.
