- All signs point to the fact that Samantha's mother is having an affair, while she sneaks around with Todd under Chloe's nose and Andrea ponders over the possibility of going into a partnership with Dena in acquiring a coffee shop.
- Samantha and Todd are making out BIG TIME inside Todd's place when suddenly the door opens. Is it Chloe!? Nope its droll Frank, delivering a "as seen on TV package."
Todd is nervous and Frank, becoming suspicious, spies Samantha hiding not-so-convincingly underneath the couch cushions.
"Ok, look, Frank, lately things havent been great with Chloe and me," Brian admits. "Relationships ... am I right?"
"Don't judge me, Frank," says Samantha from beneath the cushions.
At the café, Samantha explains her compromising position to Dena. Andrea approaches and accuses sweet Sam of enjoying the subterfuge.
"You get off on it," Andrea not-so-eloquently puts it.
"Just because I used to like to sneak around does not mean I still do," explains Samantha.
Andrea says that Sam only started to like Todd after he began dating Chloe. Sam tries to deny the charge, but can't.
"I do like the buzz," Samantha says. "I love the buzz."
Later, Samantha arranges a secret rendezvous with Todd. Regina walks into the kitchen all dressed up. She rather unconvincingly claims to be going to play Bridge with the ladies.
Samantha meets Todd. Faced with her own duplicitous ways, Sam has a revelation: Regina is having an affair! Cue opening credits!
Back at the secret date, Todd tries to convince Sam that her mother isn't being unfaithful.
"Sam, you're projecting," he says.
Todd says that he's breaking up with Chloe. Sam tells him that might not be a good idea, accusing him of "getting off on all the sneaking." Sam agrees to meet Todd at a hotel the following day.
Back at the café, Sam jokes about her mother's supposed affair. Dena and Andrea don't find it all that funny. Why? Andrea explains ... in a FLASHBACK!
Sleazy Samantha exits a club with Andrea and spots Regina in a slinky dress. Regina, who is not wearing a wedding ring, tries to cover herself and rushes into a nearby taxi.
Back in the present day: "Oh my gosh! My mother has been having an affair for years!" Samantha exclaims.
The girls try to figure out how to find out whether Regina is cheating. The only logical answer: see if she has any new, sexy underwear.
Cut to Samantha rifling through her mother's "unmentionables" when she is caught silk-handed by Howard. Sam lies to her father, telling him that she need money to see the band "Lancelot" in concert.
Sam sits down for dinner with the fam. Regina eats only salad, explaining that she had Orange Roughy for lunch.
"Yeah, I'll bet you like it roughy," snaps Samantha.
Howard accuses Sam of being a "junkie," explaining that he caught their daughter looking for money in Regina's dresser. Sam is incredulous -- especially when Regina believes Howard's explaination to be quite logical.
At the hotel room with Todd, Sam obsesses over her mothers alleged affair.
"I'm sure he's Latin!", Sam frets.
Too worked up to immediately continue her illicit affair with Todd, Samantha leaves. Her plan: discover once and for all who her mother is seeing on the side.
Samantha spots Regina hugging a good-looking man in a suit outside a restaurant. She confronts her mother.
"I know that you are cheating with dad," Sam says. "Who is he? What's his name?"
Mom is less than pleased, although she denies nothing.
"Don't you judge me for something you've done a thousand times," Regina says. "See you at home for dinner. I made scalloped potatoes."
Back home, Sam approaches. Howard says his relationship with Regina is just fine. Sam pulls him away to prove otherwise.
Sam and Howard pull up to the restaurant in a car. Sam has obviously explained everything on the drive over.
"Go inside and get your mother because if I see the man she's with, I'm gonna put my fist through his eye!" Howard exclaims.
Sam enters the restaurant. Of course, Samantha has been wrong the whole time. It turns out that Regina has long been working as a hostess and doesn't wear a wedding ring because "single girls get bigger tips."
But why keep the job secret?
"(It's) One thing in my life that I dont have to account for to anyone," Regina explains.
Also: Howard would feel as he has failed as a provider if Regina even mentioned wanting to work.
An angry Howard enters the restaurant. Sam admits she was wrong. Regina, rather than hurt her husband with the truth, says that she was GOING to have an affair, but couldn't go through with it. Howard admits he has been neglecting his wife. He apologizes. The two kiss.
A pair of women enter for lunch. Samantha pretends to be the hostess and seats them -- covering for her mother.
"Sammy's got a job," Howard says. "Hope they don't give her a urine test."
Outside Todd's apartment, Samantha hides behind a potted plant. She tells Todd that she wants to be the only woman in his life.
"You have to choose," Sam says. "It's either Chloe or me."
Todd chooses Samantha. The two kiss.
Samantha exits the building to find Frank.
"Big news," she says. "Todd is going to be my boyfriend!"
Not even a gruff Frank can ruin the happy moment.
