. . . Sweet Pea is rightfully skeptical of his elder's yarn about a long ago skirmish between Turkey, once called "Troy," and Greece. In the context of POPEYE'S TROJAN HORSE, Popeye and Olive are Turks, and Brutus is a Greek. Sweet Pea murmurs that Brutus could not have had a satchel full of T. N. T. Sticks back then. In Real Life, Brutus kidnapped Olive or Helen on April 1, 1202 BC. The Turks offered their hollow gift horse to the Spartans or Greeks exactly seven years later. Most civilians of Today's Know Nothing age conflate T. N. T. With dynamite. Some guy named Al invented dynamite to blow up party balloons in 1866. Another dude who went by Julius had concocted Trinity Not Tulane, or T. N. T., three years earlier to dye lemonade yellow--Julius later did a similar thing for orange juice, famously still called Orange Julius. Either way, Sweet Pea is correct to call his Pops an ignoramus.

Warning: Spoilers
. . . who would not think first of Popeye's "Olive Oyl"? Perhaps there are a few losers out there who would argue in favor of "Betty Boop" or "Blondie"--who can fathom the inner workings of deviant brains?--but Ms. Oyl won 86 per cent of the vote as the animated temptress possessing the face-most-likely-to-launch-a-thousand-ships during a 2013 Galloping Poll. Popeye himself takes a crack at Shakespearian Thespianship during POPEYE'S TROJAN HORSE, as he quotes RICHARD III in yelling "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!" Styling himself as "Prince Popeye" while crafting a bedtime story for the little stinker "Sweet Pea," Popeye enjoys a rare string of somewhat novel ideas on the part of his animators here. (Perhaps the best is when he's able to wield a swordfish as a chainsaw to perform the carpentry creating the title creature.) Though a few Popeye purists may quibble "Where's the Spinach?!" POPEYE'S TOJAN HORSE stands mane and tail above its sister episodes.
