Stewardesses
boblipton31 August 2023
This RKO Screenliner short subject is about a woman who wishes to become an airline stewardess, and takes an eight-week course at the McConnell Hostess School in Mineapolis. Back in those days, it was a glamorous job, and not just for ability to travel.

A lot of time is spent on how the women who try out for the position are trained in looking good and how to deal with obstreperous, handsy men. It also covers the issues of understanding how airplanes operate.

The Screenliners were one-reel short subjects from RKO that were still being produced as the company shut down all production. They were half for theatrical screening, and half advertisements for the industries they covered. Notice that the air line the lady goes to work for is TWA, which was owned by RKO producer and company owner Howard Hughes.
