The show's piece de resistence.

A gas leak forces the residents of Quigley Street to spend the night at the Village Hall, reluctantly prepared by the caretaker and his wife, The whalleys. Old feuds and new romances are exposed. An inconvenience for all, bar one, Mr Joyce.

Glorious drama, I could watch this one over and over, it is an outstanding piece of TV, an engrossing, tantalising exploration of human nature.

The class system is very much on display here, I absolutely loved the feud between Mrs Lund and Mrs Powell, one imagines they were once close friends, but heaven knows what happened, causing the pair to fall out, and endlessly point score over one another.

Sublime acting by all involved, plenty of familiar faces, stolen arguably by Bernard Hepton, magical as the slightly dysfunctional Mr Joyce. Watch out for a young Keith Chegwin.

Stunning.

10/10.
