The narrator states that the people of Northern Ireland believe that "'Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness' are the rights of all men and 'whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or ... abolish it'". These words are taken directly from the United States' Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. Somewhat ironically, Northern Ireland is now part of the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".
The ocean liner is the RMS Scythia, whose maiden voyage began on 20 August 1921. It was nearly 20,000 tons and 600 feet long. During WW2 she was requisitioned as a troop transport. After the war she spent years transporting troops back to their home countries - sometimes along with their "war brides", and resettling refugees from Europe to Canada. She was returned to commercial passenger service in 1950. She was scrapped in 1958 after becoming the longest-serving Cunard ocean liner of the 20th century.
